Anyone know the red s3 that's just come on to PH in hampshire, reg k30tvr? Also thoughts on the price? Having scanned this thread I would imagine it's top end price so would expect it to be very good. Alot of work mentioned in ad but no mention of outriggers, does under car pic indicate the frame has been done though? Not a TVR expert and really wanted a V8 as next car, but always liked the S shape and sorely tempted...

The ad just shows the centre part of the chassis. Most S series cars will be in good condition at that point, it is the outriggers and the rear part of the

chassis where the trailing arms attach that is critical. You need to get any TVR car on a ramp and fully inspect underneath. Anyone selling a "good un"

should have no problems in allowing a would be purchaser to arrange this. If a V8 is your preference then look for a V8 S, or a griff or Chimaera.

For me the chassis has only been Waxoyled and brush-painted over :

You can see the waxoyl droplet under the tubes.

Is it a perfect chassis ? no. For me a perfect chassis has been powder coated with a 3 layer treatment (zinc / Polyurethane / Polyester). But, is it a problem ? If the job has been well done, early, on a healthy chassis, rust removed, brushed, and a good rust converter applied, it's not a problem. Yes the car is not "perfect", but it's a really fair price regarding the allover condition. And if the chassis has been treated with the same kindness as the rest of the car, it's pretty reassuring.

Thanks for the comments, really useful. I went and had a look and a drive. Unfortunately I've decided its not for me as its a bit too small for my height. Also it would be too raw for the missus. However, it looks a fantastic car if anyone is after one. A nice old gent selling it as his missus isn't so well now and needs a more modern ride. Obviously well looked after and previous owner was chair of Dorset tvr club iirc. Underneath looked good to an untrained eye and he's happy for it to be put on ramps or call the garage that looks after it to discuss it. Nice smooth gear change. Not sure how much power was there as I felt I ought to treat it carefully so didn't try driving it hard. Wood dash had been refurbed (replaced) by previous owner at £1000 by a specialist firm. Downsides....Drivers door drops, though he has new hinges not yet fitted, and one small almost imperceptible starring on bonnet. Red carpet looks a bit faded too, compared to the paint, but in good knick. That and maybe retrimming leather (it's good but not mint, as you'd expect) would make it pretty well perfect

Red V8S Ross on Wye. £14k K2VBS (sure we know this car?)
Not sure about the advert though. The initial listing is poor and there are some puzzling bits in the info which suggest the seller doesn't know the car that well or has been careless, but I could be wrong.

I encourage all S owners to commit this wonderful disclaimer to memory:
"Body work in good condition but with some defects for this age of Car"

Mike, am I right in saying that if it appears in that way as an advisory, it means that there was so much underseal that the examiner could not examine aspects of the car properly.
