We'll get a back to back test at Anglesey Matt. Your 4.0ltr Chimeara against mine and Aidans S2's.
We will be able to compare on track
Its OK.. I alredy know it'll be sh*t... plus I'm driving it like a pansy at the moment.. pluus I don't really know how to "drive" properly anyway and have never done a trackday in my life...
...perhaps I'll just polish it in the pit lane
You won't be shit !!
Don't talk so much nonsense......
All I try to remember with track days is the following...
1 - Apexes are on corners genrally to be hit.
2 - Do not try and pass through every corner as fast as possible as its often better to sacrifice one for the next.
3 - Hands at 1/4 to 3 and don't take them off at all.
4 - Brake in straight lines where possible.
5 - Build your speed up over the day making sure you have the lines right before you go faster.
6 - Enjoy yourself !!
7 - Keep an eye on the Oil pressure and Temp gauges as it easy to forget to do so when on track.
8 - Always do a cooling down lap - Essential !!
- trying not to use the brakes at all....
9 - Enjoy yourself !!
10 - Buy Mark a beer or 2 afterwards...
I am sure that Steve and Peter will add to these few novice words aswell.
The good thing with BaT days is that they run 'familiarisation laps' early on and it is worth making sue you are ready to get out there and do these to find your way around the place...

But you want to be on the power starting a four wheel drift when you do so and pointing in the right direction. Hitting the apex on route for the grass or infield doesn't count. .
2 - Do not try and pass through every corner as fast as possible as it often better to sacrifice one for the next.
Depends. The problem is knowing which one to sacrifice. Tip it is usually the one before the one that has just scared you to death.
3 - Hands at 1/4 to 3 and don't take them off at all.
Good advice as driving with a set of stumps is a bit difficult...
4 - Brake in straight lines where possible.
Not if you are trail braking into the corners to shorten the distance and make the rear of the car unstable so that it turns in better. Sometimes you can't do it.
5 - Build your speed up over the day making sure you have the lines right before you go faster.
Good advice but difficult to control.
6 - Enjoy yourself !!
7 - Keep an eye on the Oil pressure and Temp gauges as it easy to forget to do so when on track.
Essential
8 - Always do a cooling down lap - Essential !!
- trying not to use the brakes at all....
Even worth doing in mid session as it aloows the driver to recover some mental faculty!
9 - Enjoy yourself !!
10 - Buy Mark a beer or 2 afterwards...
Don't understand is this a spelling mistake?
Steve....

Get some instruction.
Anyone caught engine braking will be shot.
I had 2 sessions with an instructor at Hethel as did PaulV, Steve Heath and a number of other guys.
All of us were complimented on our driving and some and my instructor picked me up on my hand placement and changed some of the lines I was using to get better corner speed and later breaking.
What he essentially taught me was that the least amount of input often produces the quickest and safest laps.
Shame Ted isn't going as he is a very neat driver. I went out with him at Folembray and he hits the apexes and carries speed yet in the cabin it feels very relaxed. The sign of a competent circuit driver IMHO. I have had this feeling with Paceracing, Steve H and Peter H when I have been out with them. ALthough driving styles differ they all setlle the car and then only adjust when necessary.
GET THE LINES RIGHT ! Is the most important thing I can say and a tutor will help you to do that.
I may be able to help in some areas but no where near like these guys can. It is worth the £20. In fact I had 2 last time !!
I now spend the morning sessions trying to learn what lines work for me and then chat with others in the pit lane to see what is working for them. This often means that by the afternoon you are getting to e sorted. A tutor will shorten this process for you..
Cheers

Another important tip, and one which is often overlooked, is to look as far ahead as possible up the track. You would be amazed at the number of novice drivers who only look at the bit of track just ahead. The key to smooth lines is to sight as much of the track as possible, so that you can join a complex of 2 or 3 corners together in one smooth line. A good example of this is at Castle Coombe. You might come out of Quarry corner and head for the chicane, take a nice line through the chicane but then stay on the right, or inside line of the circuit. Instead, if on the exit of the chicane you positioned the car over to the left again, the car will be in just the right place to clip the apex at the next right hander, (name I forget) and carry loads of extra speed onto the back straight!
