are any ciggy sockets live?

ive just bought one of those accumate chargers and
ciggy socket......reading justins post, hes is dead....
are all sockets dead? anyone using one through the ciggy socket or have i wasted my money? should have checked i know...... cheers cuys, mark

Mine (S2) only works with the ignition on.
It's in a silly place (great if your knees want to smoke ) in a flimsy panel.
I only use it to charge the mobile.

I guess your question relates to whether the lighter is wired through the ignition or is live the whole time (I had this same conversation with Justin). I guess, as mentioned on Justin's thread, it's luck of the draw as to how your lighter is wired as per standard TVR practice .

If yours is through the ignition, you could try rewiring it to use an alternate feed e.g. full-time live feed to stereo, but you'd need to check the current requirement of the charger, and you'd need to make sure that you never pushed the lighter in, or you could end up with a melted wiring loom!

The alternative would be to install a dedicated socket. I think there's a pertinent link on Justin's posting.

I would do but I had to take the actual lighter bit out as it was wearing chunks out of my left knee.
