I managed to strip the thread on the rear stub axle which means I've got to separate the axle from the CV joint by removing the six Torx screws. So far I managed to strip out two and snap off the Torx bit in the third (sorry Phillpot! I owe you a new one).

Any suggestions as how I can get these buredfaceredfaceers out and separate the units?

Unless someone can come up with a better idea it looks like a cutting disc job.

Thanks in advance thumbup

Here you are

Even if I cut the heads off will I have enough wiggle room to get the bit apart?

When you say you've managed to strip out two, do you mean you've got them out or the threads have stripped?

Do you know anyone that’s handy with welding gear?, sharpen the threaded end of say a M12 bolt to fit into the head of the stuck capscrew, put the earth clamp onto the bolt so that the current does not pass through the wheel bearing and weld the bolt as far round as you can. Use a piece of thin steel plate to protect the rubber boot from the heat. Also remember and disconnect the battery!! Give the now welded bolt a few taps with a heavy hammer and using a breaker bar gently wiggle the bolt until it breaks free (or breaks off if so either go with a bigger bolt or more welding!!
Good luck.

Cut the heads off, don't worry about damaging those spreader plate thingies, they're replaceable.

Can't recall if CV joint will pull back far enough (had to cut some of mine out years back), it certainly will if you can get the Torx bolts out at the diff end but understand if you don't want to risk compounding the problem!

I imagine it will at least pull back far enough to then get a slitting disc between the CV joint and the hub to cut the bolts through?

Have you got any out? If so, once loosened did they spin out easily enough? Mine did, not seized or anything just flipping tight.

You've got my sympathy - I hate undoing those things. I haven't needed to resort to cutting discs yet but if the Torx sockets are beggared then it sounds like the easiest solution to me. There is quite a lot of plunge on the CVs, and if you get the suspension at full droop you'll have the full travel in your favor. I'm pretty sure that will be enough to pull the CV over the end of the screws, but worst case I expect it will give you enough access to cut the bolts behind the CV.

Is there anything similar to THESE that I can use with Torx bolts?

I haven't seen an equivalent for Torx. You could use Nord-lock washers if soft thread lock isn't enough, or drill and lock wire if you want to be sure.

Anyone want to take a rough guess at how many TVR's (never mind all the other cars) are driving around quite happily
without lock tabs or wire? ... scratchchin

Wasn't there a "near miss" on a Giff on the EuroTour the other year? scratchchin Better safe than sorry. I've drilled three heads and broken three bits so that's all I can do for now until I can get some more small bits tomorrow
