I think the position of the fuel pump is not the best and looking to relocate - probably on the outer side of the nearside chassis below the drive shaft area. May relocate the filter to the same and make them closely linked.

Anyone fitted theirs away from the standard position?

One important goal is to maximise pressure at the pump inlet to minimise the risk of cavitation.

That means minimising restriction upstream of the pump (getting it close to the tank outlet with a large bore connection), getting the pump as low down as possible so gravity works in your favour, and preferably behind the tank rather than in front so inertia works in your favour under power. The standard position does pretty well in all those respects.

Not sure where yous is, but mine is in front of the tank not behind, also not at the lowest point and at 90 deg to the outlet so more bends.

I'm looking at on the chassis directly in line with the tank outlet.

I like phillpots idea of in-tank but not sure how to achieve that

My understanding is that the OE pump is designed to push and not pull so, as Pete says, the pump needs to be lower than the bottom of the tank so that the inlet is always gravity fed.

Can you get past the exhaust OK? I see the V6 pump is positioned differently, but presumably the tank is the same. On the V8 at least, the outlet is between the tail pipes and there is not much space for the hose to the pump.

the V6 outlet is near the passenger side and I have a home made exhaust which is a single central pipe until near the rear end of the tank before it splits into two tail pipes = been told it sounds very nice too
