Old are rough looking plasticy/polythene mouldings, these are machined alluminium.

The advantage is they look far smarter but more importantly they're lighter wink

Mike, are they light enough to compensate for big heavy stripes? wink

They look real nice Phillpot. Mine are not in the best shape so a set ordered and paid.

They will look real good on my 1990 S3CC.

Kind regards

Hi,

How did you mount these new shiny billet thingies. In the window frame of my S3 there is a sealed compartment when I take out the black plastic holders and the pocket is not deep enough for the billet holder.

I have to drill or saw out the bottom in that closed compartment to fit the new holders. I'm not really keen on that as it will expose the interior window frame to the elements.

How did you fit them?

Kind regards
//Rob

The alluminium pockets are no deeper than the plastic ones I removed, they went straight in?

Are you sure it's not just some sort of mastic, glue or something in the hole that someone has used to help hold the plastic ones in?

Thank you for answers.

Mine surely are not similar and the billet thingie will not fit by a long shot. The pocket is only 15mm deep.

Ideas?

Kind regards

//Rob

I think, as you can see from this photo from Leighs post, yours ain't normal!

Suggest you message Leigh and ask if any more of his customers have had an issue?

Are the longer ones perhaps an improvement to 'say' overcome the roof not having sufficient engagement. If so then it looks to be a simple enough job to open out the bottom of the pocket in the GF so the new catches fit. Perhaps others before you have done the same without mentioning it.

If it is to provide improved engagement then the 'tongue' may also need replacing with a longer version.

That may be the case.

Mine is a 1990 S3C. Not really keen to open upp the window frame to open for moistuere and/or water.

Maybe one can cut out the bottom from the billet thingie?

Thinking about it, I suspect all S bodies were moulded like this.....

... and someone had the job of openning up the holes but at some stage realised it was easier to cut down the plastic inserts, save a few minutes and get a longer tea break?

I don't see water ingress as an issue if you were to drill/grind/cut the back out. Mine and I'd guess many others have been like that from new with no ill effect?
A good dollop of silicone, if you are concerned, when you pop the ally ones in and all is good smile

Very much in the spirit of TVR. By the same token, given that the pockets must have enough depth for the roof pegs which are on the car, wouldn't it also be easier to cut the metal ones down?
