...I should have added, the whole job is much easier if you take each wheel off in turn and clean everything thoroughly, including the inner faces. Means you can also get to the suspension and clean that properly at the same time.

If you're having your wheels lacquered or powder coated a top-tip is to ever so slightly enlarge the centre hole (a flap wheel works well). This allows for the build up of the coating which makes the refitting and subsequent removal of the centre cap difficult. If you judge it correctly you'll be able to press the center cap in and out with just thumb pressure. It also means that you won't damage your nice new finish when you press the caps in and out. Don't worry if you've made the hole slightly too big though because once the wheel in on the centre cap can't go anywhere.

Another top tip; take the caps out before giving the car to the half-wit monkey at the tyre fitting place. Small independents are much better because you can watch what they do and make sure they don't buredfaceredfaceer up your caps.
