Bought another S, but need some trailing arms - HELP!
Discussion
Thanks, I would have really struggled without the guys here and this forum. I really like the engineering on the TVR as it is simple and rugged.
I have gone and damaged my back now though so I'm a few days away from actually dropping the body back onto the chassis and finishing the job off.
Tantalisingly close! The target was always spring of course and I need another 10 to 20 hours to get her done.

http://www.exactly-tvr.demon.co.uk/ they can refurbish the trailing arms
Not pretty but it hasn't failed yet. That was three years ago so maybe his welding has improved a bit since
When I went to college to learn how to weld the tutor used to say "if it don't look good then it aint any good - do it again". I failed the course

..I'd rather have an ugly weld that was fully penetrated, than a pretty one that wasn't. No worse than the TVR's original effort either, to be fair!
That was more or less what AV said in his defense. To be fair to TVR though, the OEM welds were completely solid and looked expertly done. I guess that's the difference between a time-served welder and someone who's self taught. As you say though, penetration is all important Isn't that right Glen? There are 3 welds there..one on the tube marked in-line where the main weld is going to be (having been welded out of the jig, to build a bead of larger than the tube) ...one around the circle of the old hole that bridges/joins the tube (that the old tube had been plasma cut out of) THEN a full penetration weld that then joins those together. (the same goes for the rear of the tube). It is/was never going to be pretty. I had been refurbishing the arms for nearly 25 years (before doing that one) and when you have gaps of 8-10mm to work with and old and new materials (THEN the eyelet is 10mm thick to 2.5 tube).... A@
Not sure if it helps, but I think I have two brand new V8S trailing arms. I know that sounds a bit vague, I know I have two but they are for my car. I purchased two pairs from the factory and I don't remember selling them. I will have a check and let you know if you are interested.?

Hi Mike, yeah definitely. I'd be interested in them for stock at Southways, regardless. I'm open to fitting V8S arms to the S2.Mike P

How would you match the track at the front? I think the V8S rear wheel arches are slightly flared as well to allow for the wider track.
V8s wishbones oh and subaru rack.and the small wishbone pickup mod.Not sure about the arches i run 25mm spacers all round so my wheels are futher out than the v8 anyways no problems either end.
Cheers
