Steering wheel polish?

The centre section of the steering wheel on my S3 is starting to look a bit scruffy. The leather is fine, but the black metal is not very nice anymore. It's as if it's fading unevenly. Any metal polish you can get seems to be unsuitable for anodised metal (which it is).
Any ideas how i can polish it back to its former shiny glory?
I am not keen on spray painting it, the results always disappointed me in the past. The finish just never looks "professional" imo.

If the Black anodising has gone I dont think anything will bring it back to its former glory. To clean it generally as I have just done I cleaned mine gently with WD40 and then soapy water and finally a Black colormatch polish.At the same time I replaced all of the Allen bolts around the central boss as some were looking a bit rusty (20p each)
