Great work! I really love these before and after pics!

How is your chassis?
Nothing done on chassis yet, still on it’s sorry state, got the tube to do the outriggers and will get it all cut and shaped ready for welding soon.

Thanks. I like to do things right, so taking time. Be nice to get the chassis done and start putting bits the bits back on.

The 260mm discs and calipers from a Griffith or Chimaera are a nice simple bolt on upgrade.

Unless it would be an extrem rare or specific TVR part I would go for a new brake caliper! smile

Have you seen my car, needs everything doing. So I’m on a tight budget, £29 for a refurb kit and a good few hours of my time seems like the plan.

They are single pot Sierra callipers (Vented disk), so nothing special, none on the web that I can justify spending on at the moment. Can get them fully refurbed for £110 the pair if all else fails, but where’s the fun in that, I might regret that comment.

Don’t like the look of those on the link. The 1988 originals look much more robust. Appreciate your help though, definitely need lots of that. I would prefer to keep everything as original as possible where feasible too.

Seriously, that is good if correct., got quoted £300 from one place. Will have a look, though half way though now. All split, just clean up, paint and get The big red kit and rebuild.

Have you asked BigRed how much they would charge to refurbish the pair? Well worth spending the extra.

Had a look, you are right. Really good prices from Burtons , but they don’t have of the right ones in stock. Will definitely go there again if I need Ford bits. Thanks

No, I’ll give them a shot to see what they charge.

Convinced! smile

I wouldn't have any concerns with the reworking of the outside, I just find rusty innards problematic.

I could be wrong but I think all these 'budget' calipers are originals that have been reconditioned? I'd be most surprised if anyone is making replacement calipers to a different, less robust design (and at that price) ... scratchchin

Brakes International are usually competative on price.

recently bought rear caliper kit from BCS, here's their front seal kit

Big Red will do a lovely job of them, but won't be cheap! But you will get the carriers done as well, all these budget calipers will not include the carriers, you'll still have to clean up and use yours.

Last job I had done was in 2016 on a pair of front calipers for a Tasmin, that's a twin piston caliper. The cost was £126.00. More than a set of seals but worth the money because they will replace everything that needs replacing and they come back ready to fit.
If you do think of sending them to Bigred don't attempt to remove the bleed nipples. Let them do it. If you snap one off they won't want to know.

Your right. They are all refurbs

Brakes INT, £36 / exchange calliper, that’s really good price, but as ever no carriers. Why don’t they come complete, they are part of the brakes, frustrating.

The one I’ve split looks ok inside, no rust or scratches surprisingly, the seal was good so kept it safe. Big Red and BCS do a kit which includes the pistons, think I’ll go for that.

Good advice as ever. I’m going to give it a go myself I think. The £80 saving will pay for the braided hoses I bought from Hel. 25% off at moment. And the garage is a bit of change of scenery due to working from home.

IMHO. If BiggRed do the option of stainless steel pistons in their refurb kit, it's worth the extra. As they don't suffer from stiction.
