Windows 10 & Chrome.

So not all users see the same thing then?

That's what I meant when I said FB was optimised for mobiles.

Not really true, indeed you need to optimise various apps to different phones.

However the real point perhaps is that FB is not only by far the biggest social media platform, it is now accessed by far the most by mobile phone.

Mobile phones are now the primary means by which people access media

What you will see, and how much, will to some extent depend on how your phone is set up.

I don't know it exactly, but the average age of S owners is several decades lower than mine! The average S owner relies on their phone. They will almost invariably have FB on their phone.

I am certainly NOT an expert as far as the best use of mobiles is concerned, but I am certainly capable of getting my phone set up for me, by an expert, to do what I want it to do for me.

I have adopted 'new technology' from the days of using an Elliot analogue computer, then owning a ZX80 and one of the first CBM electronic 'calculators'. However I confess I think I have reached my limit. Whenever possible I will access information, and use FB in particular, on a modern laptop. May be an age thing but I type quite fast and the keypad on my mobile is just too small for my fingers!! I am a dinosaur in that I use my phone primarily..well, as a phone!!

.........You’re right that PH is largely limited to one interest, and not necessarily checked every day. However, it’s still valuable, even if it’s only used as a reference resource rather than a social medium.........
If anyone doubts this check out some of the other Forums to see how active they are. PH isn't just the 'S' Forum as may have been implied. EG.

BMW General.

Porsche General

Supercar General

Aston Martin

And there's plenty of other busy Forums and as long as these continue to be healthy, and the advertising revenue continues to roll in, there's no reason to worry about the future of PH.

I use Facebook as it is so handy to follow three Morris Minor groups, three Jaguar XJ, two MX5 selling groups as well as my TVR groups, my local village and pub pages amongst other interests. Marketplace is brilliant for selling and free, so my first choice over EBay now. However I do look at PH weekly to see if there is anything.

On another note and more relevant to this thread, I am looking to stay for just one night at Sywell, which precludes the preferred hotel, as they will only take two night bookings. Anybody in the same predicament?

Thanks. Not that I am aware at the moment Tony, I can only suggest you ask on our FB page as all the entrants so far are from there. Are you bringing the S and if so do you want to be listed as an entrant. Cant guarantee you 'select TVR models' front row this time!!

Agree with this too. Far too many people get hacked, and thats before Cambridge analytica or whatever they are called.

What the enthusiastic advocates of Facebook don’t seem to understand is that what the end-user sees is determined by the type of device they are using, the software it is running, how those devices manage the Facebook cookies and ultimately the Facebook algorithms.

I currently have have three devices running simultaneously, each viewing the “TVR S Series Owners & Enthusiasts” page and each is offering me a similar but slightly different set of comments and replies.

The laptop runs Windows and Chrome, the Asos pad is running on Android with Chrome and the Samsung (not very)smart ‘phone is Android again but with a Samsung browser.

So those campaigning to centralise knowledge onto a platform which selectively controls the information it makes available to users need to consider whether that is the really best place to keep valuable information with the objective of making that information widely accessible by everyone in the future.

Canute would have loved you Joe. Don't worry, we understand, you always did go a different way to everybody else!!

I use a laptop, big screen, big keyboard. But we KNOW most use a phone, small screen, small keyboard. BUT the phone is with you and available ALL the time. Of COURSE they have different displays!!!! Users learn to make the best use of their preferred access method.

However, in the real world, 9 more joined our FB page this week.

TVR SCH 2023 'S Club Heaven' Sywell Classic 23/24th September 2023. Northamptonshire.
I am now starting to put together the entrant list, and I would just like to confirm that I now have 24 S cars and 7 selected other TVR models. (see list below) Just over 3 months to go so plenty of time left but the earlier I get bookings the easier for me!!
If you want to join this annual gathering with your S then please see some details above, or ask me.
Remember we won best club stand last year out of c50 stands, se we must keep standards up!
If you want your name added then PM me name, email address, S type and reg and mobile number (would help later if you could let me know whether both days or one and where you are staying, not essential at this stage but campers are recommended to book early at Sywell. Most of those staying in hotel accommodation are using Sedgwick Hall.
If you become an official entrant listed with me you do NOT need to buy a ticket. You will get a very much reduced charge from me later which will entitle you, your car, and a passenger if you have one, to an official entry pass. Those come out much closer to the date but I will have email contact with all entrants well before that.
That charge will also include for a TVRCC car sticker for the event and an engraved glass tankard one for each entrant. Those of you who were there last year can proudly wear last years polo shirt!! (no shirts this year, decided on a change!! Dont think we have had tankards since 2018?)
TVRCC are letting us have two gazebos this year so we have a display tent and a 'social' tent, brewing facilities will be organised. (As this is an airfield site it can be exposed so plan accordingly)
We have often run a charity raffle at these events. Last year Max Unwin ran it in aid of prostate cancer charity. We normally each give something and most win something back. Someone else's tunr this year. If you have a particular charity which currently means a lot to you PLEASE contact me and USE this opportunity. Very happy to have publicity for that charity on display. **PLEASE**
Other TVR models. As we are also representing the TVRCC at the event we will have a select group of other models. I have Griffith, Cerbera, Chimaera, Tamora, Tuscan and 400SE. I need a Sagaris, M series, and Grantura if you have contacts.
  • FINALLY: SCH 2024. we NEED someone to take this on, with help, at a new venue in 2024. Offers/suggestions to me first please then we can try to put some ideas together. **
Entrants so far
S Mick Millane, Mike Phillips, Stuart Green,Lee Broadfield, Jeremy White, David Owen, Alan Boiardi, Michael Rackham, Jaye Ridley, Brian Swain, Andrw Cooper, Andrew Henry, Stephen Evans, Kevin Roe, Alan Nicholls, Martin Roberts, Ian Brown, Adrian Clifford, Mike Porcaro, Ian Newberry, Darren Burbage, Joe Dawkins, John Sheppard
Select TVR group (will include one of the S cars), Liam Bourne, Max Unwin, Chris Caffell, Jeff John, Nick Moffatt, Chris Rodwell, Steve Tyree

Now 27 S cars entered with a little over 3 months to go.
We also now have at least one TVR entered in the sprint.
