Right - I have a wood steering wheel with a nine allen key bolt fixing. I have a replacement leather Griff 500 wheel with the 5 point Personal fitting. I need a boss to fit it.

Halfords do boss kits for Italian wheels (and on the side of the box it confirms this includes Personal)

But the makers of the boss have said they do not have a boss kit that fits an S3 (my guess is that the S3 is not listed on their computer).

Its a Mark 4 Escort steering rack I believe. If I buy a boss kit to fit a Personal wheel to a Mark 4 Escort, surely this will work? They have said it wont but I cannot see any logic in that

Any ideas? I have already forked out for the wheel and dont fancy laying out another £35 for a boss that is useless as well.

Sierra steering column. TVR bespoke steering rack made up from bits and pieces found during a tidy up Peter Wheelers garden shed.

so does that mean I can buy a boss that will fit a Personal wheel to a Sierra steering rack?

Nope... The rack is the bit at the front of the car. What you are talking about is the column and the only way this is gonna be resolved is to take the steering wheel off the S and physically check and inspect it. I would do this anyway as they is no 100% guarentee that what ever someone says is going to be accurate despite their best intentions.

Some years ago now MOTO-LITA made me up a special steering wheel boss from dimensions and information I gave them, if you get really stuck you could try them, I remember they were more than helpful and I think the boss cost around £35 but probably more now.
Search on MOTO-LITA for their address.
Cheers

well from other S's that I have seen, the Griff wheel seems to be the same fitment and the one on there at the moment to be the "odd one out". So a standard boss should fit both the steering column (ta Steve ) and the "new" Griff wheel.

But I dont know where to buy a boss

I recently bought a second hand Personal wheel, that I was assured would fit the Momo boss on my 350i... Wrong! The hold centres are very slightly different. Luckily the venor agreed to take it back. I have now bought a new Momo one which fits perfectly.
Had a similar experience about 5 years ago with an Astrali wheel. They custom made me a boss for that after the supposed right one wasn't!
Moral - buy a wheel to fit the boss that's on the car!
