door rehanging
Discussion
hi everyone,
Thinking about rehanging my drivers side door on my S3C as it doesnt close flush. Im looking to access the hinge through the door card. First question is...Is this the way to do it? second question is, can anyone tell me how to remove the door card without breaking the various fittings? I had a brief go but i found myself forcing things more than i would like to. If someone could tell me what has to be removed that would be great!

got the trim off after dropping the 7mm spanner in the door, took me ages to retrieve it. Anyone know how to actually adjust the doors hang. I need to raise it a couple of mm. I can see a bolt on the top of the inner door and a nut on the bottom of the inner door. Do i just slacken the bottom by a gnats cock and tighten the top or have i got the method all wrong. Is there a hinge or something im missing?
good timing as i did both of mine in the last week or so
remove door card
undo 4 screws and one nut that hold the front quater light type frame - remove frame
support door
loosen/remove big pivot bolt 17 mm af
loosen 2 X 13mm af bolts (top and bottom)
if hinges are worn pack out below pivot bolt
close door and align
tighten bolts
refit frame and door card
hint - make careful note of the order the washers on the bolts go together
have fun it takes around 2hrs per side

aluminium frame is held in by 4 screws at the top and one nut at the bottom (there is another under it which is one of the two and one bolt that hold the bottom hinge on
door window needs to be up to remove the frame
give me a fax number and i'll fax you a sketch of how it all fits together

Thanks! I should also have mentioned the captive nuts in the door and body, all visible in the 3rd picture. If these become loose you're in big trouble. Fortunately mine were ok, mind you, although my first attempt at adjusting the door was ok, it still needs more adjustment.

Not sure that you need to loosen the 17mm pivot bolt (line 5 above) and I'm sure you don't want to remove it as the door will then float all over the place and adjustment will be meaninglessundo 4 screws and one nut that hold the front quater light type frame - remove frame

Its very simple if you can adjust the sag out via the 13mm bolts. In most cases I suspect, the sag on the bottom pivot is due to the 17mm bolt seizing in the captive nut in the sill and consequently the whole assemby breaking free of the body and rotating when you open the door. This needs extensive surgery to sort out. The top pivot is generally OK 'cos water doesn't collect on it. This is my summer job. Andy
