Got a slight grinding noise from the front of the engine, not there on cold start-up though. -Takes about a minute to appear. Disappears when returning to idle after a bit of throttle. Also gets worse when the car hasn't been used for a while -any ideas?

Edited to add it's an S2!

Could it be drive belt related, water pump or similar?

You could try taking the belt off and seeing if the noise dissappears

hmmm, this is the general area the noise is coming from. Wasn't there when I got the car so I've only my driving style to blame

Will try the belt idea

Water pump or alternator bearings make that kind of noise.

The water pump maybe favourite as it does change sound dependant on the temperature of the water.

Fan belt itself can make some pretty nasty noises and will change with temperature and load. Try wiping some soap on it?
