MY S1 seemed to run very warm. While taking a look under the bonnet i noticed the electric fan attached to the rad was not tripping in. Under closer inspection i realised it had been rewired to a manual switch in the cab. This leads me to believe the temp sender must not be working. The sender is attached to the top rad hose. Does anybody know what this part is( where can i get one?).Also im not to keen on the wolfrace alloys on my car, do later TVR styles fit my S (i.e Chimiera 5 spokes etc.)
Also does anybody know how much i should pay to have my seats recovered in leather, mine have seen better days.(i live in Blackpool if anybody can recommend anyone)

The Otter Switch is supposed to be from a Metro.
Take a look at this S parts list:

I have seen the Chimaera wheels on a several S's - HarryW's for one. However, I know that the width of the rims on a Chimaera are different for front and back and not sure whether you could just buy a set of Chim wheels and stick them straight on. You may have to buy 4 chim front wheels, or alternatively modify the set up at the rear to take the extra width. HarryW will probably be able to tell you what width the Chim wheels on his S, and those came as standard from the factory.

Re the leather - do a search for this on the S forum. I recall that it would cost mucho dinero and some have resorted to replacing the seats with Chim ones because the cost was so much.

Yep, seat recovering ain't cheap... around £500+ per seat! Whereas, you might be able to get some Chim seats for £500 all in, from a breakers (and hope they match!).

How bad is the leather... I've found that with plenty of TLC and enough Autoglym cleaner and feeder they do come back to life a fair bit!

Hi good to see another S1 owner.

I think the manual over ride is a common mod, it's detailed in the "bible". Do the fans then come on?

If you do change wheels I'm sure a few people would like the Wolfrace ones You jut missed some 8 spoke ones on ebay!

Shnozz (phil), but HarryW's is a (late) V8S with rear discs, so closer to Chimaera than a S1 which has drums, may fit, may not!

Seat Cover people in Blackpool, hmm apart from a small firm in Bristol Ave, no idea!

David - good point. Didnt think about the discs/drums point.

In fact, HarryW's S is so near to a Chimaera I reckon resale will be in line with old Chims, rather than the V8S!

there are many other S's with Chim wheels fitted. Cant think of anyone off the top of my head other than Graham (GBgaffer) and Pete Humphries (GreenV8S) - which isnt a great help as both these cars are V8s!

tvrgaas.. from the way I read it the switch is not an override, its the only method of activating the fans. An override would just switch across the contact points for the otter switch wouldn't it, so that in normal running the otter switch would work anyway ?

Cheers,
Matt.

Err not quite shnozz - mine's an S4, but you're right in that it has the same chassis as the V8.

Surely Chimaera's are fitted with S wheels

Anyway welcome to the group Danny

Cheers

I have an S3 fitted with 15" Chim. wheels, No problems with fit. It could be expensive to upgrade though. My originals were stolen 3 or 4 years ago, before I bought the car. I have an invoice off the insurance company for nearly £1200 for the set, but this included new Bridgestone S02's.

The Chimaera has 16" wheels on the rear and 15" on the front. For a V6 S you will need 4 front wheels, these fit fine (I have these on my S2), the 16" rears will only fit on the V8S rear end as the trailing arms are different (I have rear discs on my S2 and the 16" wheels do not fit as I have V6 trailing arms)
If that makes any sense!

Cheers

. . . and just to confuse matters further, the wolfrace style slots fit the V8S - I've got 'em on mine!

Thanks for the help everybody, its good to know you people are here to help. Although im not a complete TVR novice, ( i rebuilt and restored a 1983 tasmin 200 FHC a few years ago. IT made a great first car for me at 17 years old )
Im suprised at the cost of retrimming the seats, unfortunately they are beyond repair. ( i guessed £500 for the two) . I managed to get the car over a pit today, only to find out the outriggers were rotten, how easy are they to change and where can i buy the bushes. Luckily the rest of the chassis is solid, just needs a repaint. Thanks again everybody

My S1 is fitted with TSW Stealths which are 5 spokes which loog good , are easily kept clean and keep the brakes cool. Apparently they were an option from new and a few S s have the. They are still sold by TSW, S1 can be seen on Steve Reids website(ClassicTVR) even though he sold me the car nearly 3 years ago.

The best upgrade for an S1 is to fit S3 trailing arms, the transform the handling.

Enjoy your S1

Best bet for the seats is to contact some local trimmers... see what they can do, and what they charge.

As for the outriggers... seem to recall that Tower View do these, BUT I'm NOT 100% CERTAIN... I'm sure shpup or GreenV8S will be able to correct me..

Outriggers? I assume you mean the semi trailing arms. S1 semi trailing arms are no longer available, but the S3 version is available from the factory and will fit (and improve) an S1.

Outriggers... the bits of the chassis that stick out from the main bit that hold up the bit of body where your arse and your passengers arse goes...
