Fuel Consumption
Discussion
Can't tell you about the V8, but with a V6 S3C I filled up in Sheffield, shot down the M1 to London at a reasonable pace (cruised at 75ish) and had enough fuel to potter around London in slow traffic for a few days. Reckon I'm getting about 30ish mpg on average when being sensible.
That said, I reckon I used about £15 worth the other night on a swifter run from Sheffield to Lincs and back, (130ish miles all in). Seems to make a huge difference in the way I drive. Steady progress, not redlining it to change gears and so on and I've noticed not a huge drop in economy from a 900 Turbo. That said, if I boot it, it drinks the fuel at an alarming, but huge gring inducing rate.
Guessing a V8 is a little more thirsty, but can't swear to it.
Edited to correct smelling pisstakes..

Not worked out the consumption, it would probably frighten me but seeing as its only used as a toy I don't think I've got the best out of it's economy features .
Normally put £15 - £20 for a 50 mile weekend blat which probably works out anywhere from 10 - 15 mpg I did say my driving was for fun didn't I
Harry
Seriously though, when I picked the car up and did a normal journey from York down to the south coast it was doing (rough estimate at the time) about 24 mpg cruising at 70/80 ish

10-15 to the gallon - you need to take it out of reverse andd try it going forwards

Sounds about right to me... although I've got down to about 18-20mpg when having "fun" round the lanes!
HarryW - so yours is a bitch to find reverse on as well? When I first got mine, I couldn't even find reverse!
I've found the knack is select 2nd... then move it up and to the left... get it everytime now!
Over the last 4500 miles I have averaged 25.4 mpg in the S3V6. I have been using the car to commute, 40 miles a day down the A64, as well as the odd weekend spin.
Individual tanks have averaged been between 23 and 29 mpg.
A couple of years a go I managed an average of 26 on the run to Le Mans and back (1100 miles) and can certify that this was not a 70mph cruise.

Could anyone give me a rough idea on fuel consumption differences between a S3V6 and S3V8. Sorry to be so basic but my head is trying to weigh a lot of things up!!!
S2 25 mpg in mixed driving.
V8S 20 mpg on a cruise, 18 mpg mixed gentle driving, down to 4 mpg on track. It's a 4.6, but the cruising economy is almost identical to a standard 4.0 (checked over long distances in a convoy with standard cars.).
Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

I was wondering the same when working out if I should buy one or stick to the tin top. Decided it was a very bad idea to get one all in all.
Then I bought one and haven't looked back since, (mainly as the rear view mirror has just fallen off and I can't stick it back on)..
The way I work it is:

See the needle wavering somewhere around the quarter tank mark, so find a Shell garage (if possible) and fill up.
Get asked questions about car by fellow filler-uppers with their Monetra rep mobiles.
Put foot down after leaving garage to make up for the (probably imagined) extra weight, making plenty of noise.
And enjoy the drive :-)
But mine is for fun only mind you.
