Wet Passenger footwell
Discussion
My S1 wouldnt start the other day, luckily i noticed that when turning the Key the usual noise of the fuel pump wasnt there. I eventually traced the problem to the pink relay in the passenger footwell. It was full of water . In fact all the fuses were wet. Has anyone got any idea how the water gets there? Is this a common problem? How can i fix it?
If the fuses have got wet then the water must be coming from above (I guess) so you want to look for where the loom goes through the bulkhead from the engine bay into the fuse box area. Clean up the hole as best you can and then use plenty of silicon sealer to make the cable route water tight. If that doesn't sort it then it's time to get the hose out to find the leak but my guess is that that will sort the problem.
Good luck,

On the S1, any water from the windscreen (either rain or washing) is channelled under the bonnet straight under the electrics. The fuse box is directly below this and water will run straight in.
I found with my S1 that on a completely dry day the engine would miss after I had washed car.
This fault is mentioned in the bible, and is cured by sticking household door draught excluder on the bodywork under the bonnet to channel the water away from the electrics.
Just pour a jug of water onto the passenger sider of the windscreen with the bonnet up and you will see what is happening.
You will only need a couple of 18inch lengths(said the actress to her two favourite bishops). Email me your address and I will send you some.
I have since driven through numerous thunder storms with no problem. Saying that I always keep WD40 in the boot.
I think this only happens on the S1s bless em!
