I need new tires for my car. Now i have the Bridgestone RE 71, but i want to change to the Bridgestone RE 720 or to the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD-2. I ve read a lot about the Bridgestone, but anyone who can say something about the Goodyear?

Hi Florian

Can't answer your specific question as I've got P6000's on my S, but if you do a search on tyres on here you will probably get your answer.

Btw where in Germany are you?

cannot talk from my own experience cos I have gone for RE720's when my SO2's were on the way out.

However, a friend who has a sports car and often chats to car buffs has told be that the Goodyears have an extremely good reputation, alongside that of the SO2's - and are cheaper.

When I was looking to buy an S, I drove cars with all sorts of different tyres... and by far the best IMHO were the RE720's... ESPECIALLY in the wet!

Hmm, I think you'd have to try all the tyres on the same car to come to this conclusion, I imagine the variety of setups/condition of the cars you drove would make this an unsound conclusion imo. I've also found that you really need to warm the tyres up plenty to get the best from them on a car like this so a test drive (unless it was an extended one) wouldn't do that. Also, I'd certainly not be keen to let anyone drive my car on a test drive to the limit required to make any judgement on the tyres.

Mark

Dern - granted, all "testing" was done on different cars and well within the limits of the tyres... however, I drove three cars with RE720's on them, and still maintain, that they were the most confidence inspiring of all the tyres... and given that the cars in question varied - S2, S3 and S3c... I'd say that was a reasonable summation.

I changed from RE71 to RE720, which seem just as good if not better than the originals.
It's a good idea (unless you want to raise the ride height of the suspension) to keep to 60 profile tyres to avoid the usual low ground (exhaust) clearance problems.

this was one of the main reasons for me going from SO2 to the RE720 - getting back to a 60 profile. its amazing how much difference there was when the fitters had an SO2 with little tread stood next to a brand new RE720. On a car with so little clearance it is something else to consider (when my car is used every day and must conquer all roads)

Only down side was that I had to have all four replaced when only the fronts were down to the legal limits. Still, being a tight fisted git, I took the rears home with me with the intention of using them on track days or flogging them. Instead, they can fill up the shed and perish in peace
