I'm sure that this problem has been encountered before, but I would be grateful if somebody could help me with the solution!!
I went to open the boot to store the roof on my S3 last night, pushed the button and nothing happened. Last time this occured it was one of the wires come off the back of the switch, and I soldered them back on, but on inspection, this time this is not the problem. Even breaking the wires off the switch, which I have now done, and touching thewm together still did not solve the problem, the boot remains firmly shut. Know doubt this problem will be solved the day it starts to rain again!!! So if anyone can give me some pointers I would be grateful!! Even knowing how to get into the boot without the switch would be usuefull, although if you can do this maybe on my personal profile rather than broadcast it to the world!! Looking forward to an early reply!!

Hi Paul

Thanks for the response - I have read the threasd and the difference seems to be that when I push the button, I get know sound at all, no click from either the relay or solenoid, just silence!! Is there a fuse on this circuit??

yes there is a fuse for it IIRC - if you dont hear the click from the fuses then you know where you are looking. Have you a copy of the bible to hand? if so, have a look in there for fuse layout (although mine bears little resemblance to neither the S2 or S3 layout provided )

Unfortunately I don't have a copy of the bible, but I will chek the fuses through and see if there is one blown. Thanks for that

Now's the perfect time to get one! (hey, I beat Steve to it! )

Seriously, it's an essential guide if you have an S. It also includes wiring diagrams that you'd probably find useful for this very problem.

yes the bible is invaluable, although I have to say when it comes to fuses/electrics/switches on the S series, no diagram ever appears to match up correctly!!

Come on Mr Giles - you can't come on here admiting that you don't own a bible - you know better than that - people will think there is something wrong with you .

Seriously it is a good read and does give you at least a point of reference if something goes wrong - the cover is nice too. Even if you don't buy one I would suggest that, on here, you pretend that you did .

Of course I was only jesting when I said that I did'nt own a bible!!! Seriously though, I have found the problem, and it turned out to be something very simple. Under the carpet above the passenger footwell, where the engine "brain" is and the fuse box, when the car was in for service, they obviously went in here, because I found the fuse controlling the boot (typically the last one I checked standing on my head in the footwell) was not pushed in properly. I think the box containing the brain might have caught on the edge when it was put back to gether and worked it out!!! Simple solution, but took a while to find!!!

Thanks for all your help anyway!!

Just to finish this thread off, and for other peoples information, managed to get a new switch to open boot, identical to the one I took off, from Maplins, 99p!!!!
Who said running TVR's was expensive!!

While we're on the subject of boots, could someone send

Got the battery charging inside (flat after the first month without use!), and my bible is guess where!

Figure I might as well use the oppurtunity to check how the emergency entrance technique works and whether I might have similar problem's to those Richard had.

Thanks in advance.
