Anyone out there from the Hampshire area?
Am desperately trying to fund the purchase of an S series at present but would be great to meet up with some people to find out more about the cars from owners that know what they are like to live with already. I have looked at the Hampshire TVRCC and see where they meet up so will try and get to that. Would be great to meet some other owners and maybe go for a blast etc. I live in Southampton but happy to travel reasonable distance.

cheers all - will try and make it to Virginia Water to see you and your faces (and motors) in the flesh. have steve heath's book already and v pleased i bought it before i start looking - invaluable! just wish i had the money ready and waiting - long story re getting stitched by ex! i dont really want to buy an S on a shoestring as it will be my only car and will need to be in a position to pay for repairs/maintenence if it goes wrong!

It's true there are not many cars around Southampton but there is a gorgeous late S3C (K) at Straight Eight in the New Forest (Bramshaw, I think) - although it is very expensive - Window shopping never hurt anyone!! ....their wallets, maybe...
Adrian Blyth is also not that far, only about 1hr away - I bought mine from him - he quite often has a good selection, although the number of ‘S’s seems to have dwindled lately, but it is worth keeping an eye on his web site.
I also know a trustworthy mechanic who can service the cars if you decide not to pay TVR costs - depends on what sort of service history the car has when you buy it. I worked out that the money I would get back if the car had a full TVR service history was not as much as I would have had to spend out in paying for it in the first place.
Reliability wise I bought an MGF after the 'S' (needed something I could leave outside in all weathers), and it cost me a damn site more to run!! I had both cars for about 18mths, in total I think the 'F' cost upwards of £2000, whereas the 'S' cost me about £1000 (most of this was due to a faulty bonnet hinge snapping). Coincidentally the only parts that I ever had problems with on the ‘S’ were TVR supplied, the majority of the engine is Ford so is pretty dependable.
Rambled on a bit there I'm afraid, I'll shut up now.

cheers matt - no doubt will speak more when the time arrives - hopefully sooner rather than later - will also take you up on the offer re mechanic as dont want to pay silly money plus drive for 1/2 a day to find someone.

But I know that the ‘F’ could handle completely differently given a different set of tyres and suspension set up. Cross country, (twisty roads) I always felt it would have left the ‘S’ in its dust.
The ‘S’ just has that certain something that the ‘F’ lacked, it makes your spine tingle and forces you to do silly things, like driving in a gear too low just to make the engine rumble that bit louder. Oh how I wish I could buy another; damn my commute!
I definitely agree with you though, buying privately can save you quite a bit of money – although I would probably get it checked over by a specialist, just in case.

I have an S2 in Soton, use it every day and have done since last Feb. Used it to commute weekends between Penzance and Bristol for most of the summer (oh the joys of the A30 and M5 at 2am in the morning!

Brooklands Green 90/G in and out of Soton everday rain or shine. Bought mine in Feb from Adrian Blyth, top chap no bull, told it as it was.
I might sell if the right price but only if I can find the right griff.

thanks chaps - interesting to get a comparison with the F Matt - gives me an idea as to what to expect. Must say i am surprised what you say about the 2 performance wise on a country lane.

Whilst i have done finance in the past, it scares me a bit with a car that may well cost me a few bob each month to run as an everyday car. Still, be good to meet up to have a look and timing may be good that i could have the money when you find a replacement. Are you going to the meet at Virginia Waters?
