After doing the "windy window down to listen as the TVR goes past" thing for more years than I care to (or am able to) count, I have finally gone out and bought one - a gorgeous mica blue S3... not in concours nick but usable.

Am collecting the car later this week - meanwhile I am in the normal throes of "Oh no what have I done, what if the wheels / engine / sundry other bits fall off or don't work etc" (I have done this with every car I ever bought)...

I'm still all excited though...

Nice one Mate. Good luck with the car and let us know of any problems once you get it on the road. Welcome to the Forum!

I have come up with a theory that once sold to someone new they have a defence mechanism that causes bits to fall off until you have proven a worthy owner. I had a few teething problems despite buying a well sorted car, Ren's had a couple I think, even Joolz managed to snap a throttle cable within 100 yards of the garage he bought it from.

Then again, Joolz, throttle cable, (remembering how he wiped the floor with me on the Kart track). Hmm, maybe not so surprising..

Best solution I've found is to lovingly clean with Zymol, www.zymol.com/carwash.htm, (Halfords do a good 'high street' version at a reasonable cost), buy nice shiny bits from someone like Leven, www.leventechnology.co.uk/, take it steady until you are at one with the car, then give it a damm good thrashing.. Oh, they don't like being driven with the roof on..

Excellent choice of motor. Any problems, the locals here are very friendly, and if you can't find the solution in the archives, someone will post an answer very quickly. Probably several, but they usually match..

One last thing, buy the bible.. www.tvrbooks.co.uk/

Thank you for that kind advice sir! I shall particularly remember that no matter how much it pains me, I MUST remove the roof regardless of the ultraviolet cookery of my poor bonce...

I ordered a bible at 8:30 this evening, after reading other threads... thanks again though...

No problem..

Must admit that I've popped a small tub of the lip salve stuff I use when flying paragliders into the car now as I've found the sun and wind a bit strong, (feared I'd never see the sun again after I finally bought the S)..

As for hair, I'm currently sporting the 'just out of the shower/out of bed/dragged through a hedge baclwards' look that is apparently so trendy these days, (as I have for the last 10 years or so due to sartorial ineptitude). PistonHeads fleece hat will emerge in the winter..

You can't beat a mica blue S3!

My advice would be to go out and enjoy it every chance you get, and just worry about the problems as/if and when they occur. On an open road and a sunny day, open to the elements, you'll know you've done the right thing!

good choice!

Where abouts are you? (guessing Scotland or summat due to the name!) - S owners are usually more than happy to go for a blast!

If you get any problems... this forum is the place to ask... or have a search through! - oh yeah, and you really should joing the TVR Car Club - www.tvrcc.com - if you haven't done so already!

Happy Motoring!

Yeah, Mica Blue ... hm ... lovely!
If you're based in Scotland, were you at the last Kirkauldy meeting by any chance? I may have talked to you briefly and then got distracted with our planning for LeMans.
Anyway, welcome to the S Club!

Totally agree Mica blue best colour for an S3. But I reckon your wrong about Haggisheads location, with a tag name like that he must be miles away from Scotland , well south ,Hampshire, Dorset area maybe.
Wherever you are welcome to the club !

i am glad i am not the only one this has happened to my battery failed on the way home from picking her up,(after bragging to everyone how marvellous it was)and left me stranded in the service area.

my car is testing me at the moment to see if i will stick with her but once you get on that open road with the top down all is forgiven and the TVR Grin Appears

first thing to do, buy a brand new battery and get it from the dealers 620 amp its about 60 quid. Then get it serviced and replace the air filter, plugs, leads, cap, rotor ..... Have to admit in 2 years of ownership, its started first time every time (except when the old battery died just before my first club meet!) and nothing has broke. I think the "S" series is amongst the most reliable of the marque. Oh and i think met BRG is the best colour! welcome to the "S" club mate.

Welcome to the Club - which day are you picking the car up ? I'll keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't rain that day - Something about new owners and the weather.

No you guessed right my dear watson, I am indeed in Central Scotland.

No I wasn't at the Kirkcaldy meet (I can spell it though ) but I might try the next one.

I am collecting the car on Thursday - weather forecast for this weekend is blistering sun so it's looking good...

and yes a battery is top of my list - the one that's in it is almost new but has been standing too long and doesn't seem to hold its charge.

and yep I'm up for a blast after I get the car sorted a bit and get a wee bit better acquainted with it!

Wheeeeee!!!

After 4 days of trepidation, of the "what have I done?" type, I picked up the car today.

Only one word describes the drive home : Fan - bleeding - tastic!

Seems to overheat a smidge when stationary, and I noticed that the centre console dials are steaming up (coolant leak? must investigate...) but I'll get round to that. In the meantime, I have had a procession of every small boy (aged 6 to 36) in the street over for a look...

I have to go to work tomorrow... (altogether - aww....) but only for a half day (hooray!!)
