After 4 days of trepidation, of the "what have I done?" type, I picked up the car today.

Only one word describes the drive home : Fan - bleeding - tastic!

Sounds familiar...!

Seems to overheat a smidge when stationary, and I noticed that the centre console dials are steaming up (coolant leak? must investigate...)

As mentioned... "they all do that sir!" - nowt to worry about... heat soak from the engine...

Seems to overheat a smidge when stationary, and I noticed that the centre console dials are steaming up (coolant leak? must investigate...) but I'll get round to that. In the meantime, I have had a procession of every small boy (aged 6 to 36) in the street over for a look...

I have to go to work tomorrow... (altogether - aww....) but only for a half day (hooray!!)

Welcome to the club if funny but when i picked my car up i had similar problems ,
Apparently the dials steaming up;i was told is quite normal due to the heat from the engine,
i also had a slight overheat as will but i think this was down to the swirlpot lid not being on properly as it has been alright ever since

again welcome and enjoy

This is merely a clever system to provide you with "at-a-glance" confirmation that the engine's reached the correct operating temperature.

Same problem with mine - I found that after running it daily for a week the problem went away - and YES my temp gauge looks scary too - but it all seems to hang together O.K. - the dials are not the most acurate and IMHO only give a rough idea of whats going on under the bonnet. Welcome to the club and enjoy the ride.

Gosh that is clever... When will the Japanese get round to making Mazda dials steam up?

(Speaking of which I went to Halfords today to price a new battery "TVR? That's a Honda isn't it?"

"Nooooo...")
