I have a 1991 S3 fitted with a Clifford Alarm / Immobiliser linked to central locking and remote boot release.

I do not know is this was retro - fitted or factory or dealer fitted. The car was originally sourced from Harrogate Horseless Carriage.

The first thing I am trying to locate is a copy of any instruction manual that may have been issued at the time. Has any one got a simliar specified car and a manual? I will happily pay all copying and postage costs.

Secondly, the alarm is reliable to a degree but needs some work to establish full functioning - any advice. ie.

Remote locking will lock and set by key but locks and unlocks immediately by remote.

Alarm seems super sensitive and activates far too easily, so the siren is currently turned off.

Lastly - what do all these message icons mean and how are they used????

Peter,

I have a 91 S3c and mine had an iffy alarm fitted with remote locking. I spoke to TVR and the original dealer who confirmed that there was no original equipment or standard dealer fit alarms at that time.

I tracked down the UK supplier of my alarm on the web (can't remember who it was but the main site was in Italy) and they couldn't help as it was too old.

I then checked with the Thatcham Site and confirmed it was too old to have an approved category rating. Once I decided it was as much use as a chocolate oil pump I ripped it out and had an approved immobiliser fitted (cat 2 for insurance).

If you want to keep the full alarm / remote setup you may find it easier to fit a new one.

Good luck,
JSG.

See smiles legend on the left when typing the post for icon info.

I have the same system on my 1990 S3C, Peter, although my car has no central locking, and the alarm is not functioning at the mo.

Unfortunately, I'm after the same info as yourself; I was planning on going to a car alarm specialist, and then I saw this.

As far as the icon stuff goes, click on the smiles legend hyperlink on LHS of text box when you are tapping out a message. Choose your icon and memorise the 'codeword' for want of a better word. Type the 'codeword' during your message and when it appears on the forum, so will your icon. awight?

Cheers

Chin up,

When I asked a few 'alarm specialists' they all said that as a 8 - 10 year old alarm would not have a security rating it would not be economical to repair as even if you had a labour charge of £50 plus new parts (if they could get them) it still would not be insurance approved.

Messasge for "loudandfast"
I checked the control unit and it is marked Eagle. Visited Clifford.com (USA) web site and they only list an Eagle II - which is not the same.

Clifford.co.uk site offers advice in FAQ's - contact your local dealer and he can obtain an owners manual for you.

Anyway loudandfast (or is it Andy?) how do I email directly to you? Where do you live - I live near Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

Message for Andy (Loudandfast)
Happened to notice in Yello Pages a local company that fits Clifford Alarms - not the company recommended by Clifford?

Had car checked by them on Friday morning at my home. Alarm all working but untidy installation and badly "tuned". After a couple of hours the alarm is now perfect and does things I had not dreamed of. Also had full workings of the alarm explained

Also checked out the remote locking and found suspect 5 wire switch/motor unit in drivers door which I have still to fix as engineer had no suitable stock item with him. The whole service cost £65 including a written confirmation of fully functioning alarm - a real bargain

My thanks to Richard from Acousticar in Market Harborough tel. 0800 804 6140

Andy - many thanks also for your offer of help.
