Waxoyl / Hammerite

I have done most of my chassis with Hammerite. I did the front section first and then the rear section and fuel cradle last.
The rear was done far better due to the preparation given to the area.
First clean the chassis, remove all loose old coating and take back to shiny metal. Then clean down with white spirit. Then attack it with a wire brush in a drill getting rid of all loose surface rust. Go potty with said wire brush for more engrained rust. Then re clean with white spirit. Once this is all complete get a good quality rust attacker and inhibitor and cover the whole thing. If good quality this will then give you an undercoat for your first layer of Hammerite. Then put another layer on top. Then put another layer on top. Then take piccies of new looking shiny chassis and rejoice in the fact that it is sorted, regardless of the fact you are missing the tops to all your knuckles, you have breathed in so much crud you sound like an 80 a day man. You hair is matted with old chassis coating and pieces have become embedded in your arse to remind you every time you sit down !!
It really is that much fun !!
As for Waxoyl, I have used this aswell, but would wholely recommend that you need to get the base coating right before you apply anything over the top. If your original covering is still intact and in good conmdition then go for the Waxoyling. Make sure you get the insides of the trailing arms Waxoyled while you're at it.

Anyone seen GravelGuard? (I think its like Worths SKS Stoneguard) I used it on my beetle and will probably use it on my S Chassis also. It puts a flexible rubbery/tarlike coating down that can be overpainted.. as it goes on thick it doesn't get penetrated by stonechips... would highly recommend it.
