lubrificant for steering

Hi,
Does anybody know, what lubrificant I should put into my refurbished rack& pinion steering?
A specialist for classical car restoration sold me "Penrite Steering Lube". The instructions on the bottle say however " Not for rack& pinion AND Power steering"
I called Penrite UK, and they do indeed recommend a good "engine oil" instead, as their Steering Lube is too viscose and is not able to "channel". It was designed for older steering boxes, that are less tight...

I guess that people who replaced the gaiters were confronted with the same question

When I picked up my refurbished rack, I asked what oil should be put in and I was told - no need, it's already lubricated...maybe you should check with the refurbishers (or their agent)

My "refurbisher's" skills are unfortunately limited to well machining any parts. I asked him to polish the rack, where worn, and to put in a bronze guide into the alloy housing. He did a very good job.

Best lubrication for all S series drivers to use is Guiness

ZF have a list of released lubrificants for non power assisted steerings. I talked to Mr. Martin Vogel (0049 7541 77 -7181), who recommend for non assisted rack&pinion any oil of class 08A that fulfills:
API GL-4 and
MIL-L-2105 and
SAE 80W / 80W-85 / 80W-90

With regard to qty, I expect that the housing should at least be half full with oil.
