db800 and steve,
My hat goes off to both of you.
I stripped down my S3 chassis re hammerited it and waxoiled all with the body still on, and Know i didnt get to all of it ie, abobe the side tubes.
But i was well happy with the chassis looking so much better when i finished just wished i'd had the room to have tried the body off.
This must of been so satisfing to do and hopefully owners seeing these pictures will encourage them to do it and keep these luverly motors on the road for a long time to come.
Especially as i would love to own one of these again in the future when i have more funds

I've never done anything this drastic, but isn't a body off restoration pretty stressful on the car (in terms of bodywork stress cracks, disturbance to the wiring loom and so on)? I don't think I'd go there just to paint the chassis!
Knowning my luck i would of caused some bodywork cracks/stresses, but just feel you would also get to the parts that you cant normally reach and get a good education into the cars workings at the same time.
Weather thats a good enough reason or is worth the risk to someone like me i dont know, but is something i would like to have done.
