Muley

snap, I have an S1 and live in Wokingham, I'm not far from the Plough pub on the London Road. If twit wants to come down and have a look at your car I can drag mine along too. Should be able to show him a few typical faults (unfortunately)

Cheers
Dave

bit dissapointed all in all. Got even more excited on the drive to Fernies when I sampled the roads on the way to their premises . The staff at Fernies were great but........

couldnt take the car for a spin as wasnt prepared by the garage and needed service etc etc. Whilst I found the staff fantastic (and open about everything), its a shame I wasnt told that much before driving for 2 hrs to see it.

the car is an absolute peach to be honest. looked for all the points people mentionned on here and general bits as well. it is a corker.

apparently 6 other people have already viewed the car and are very interested so i have added my name to the "can you call me when its ready to drive" list.

in fairness, I was given the option of putting a holding deposite down on it but without ever having driven an S I was not happy to do this.

so i still havent driven an S and looks as though the swarm of other interested people will beat me to it.

ah well, can only sit by the phone

Bad Luck Shnozz,

I agree they are a good bunch down there, but it does seem a bit off that they didn’t tell you it wasn’t driveable.

Having said that, over the years I have driven a number of their cars and they were always up there with the best of them. If you are genuinely interested in buying and it seems that good, I have to say I would have put down a deposit, after all they are a reputable dealer and it’ll come with a warranty.

But hey that’s just me I’m a sucker for nicely prepared motor!!

I’m off to see an S3 on Saturday that sounds very tasty, again a bit on the pricey side but its gotta be worth a look!!

Finally is anyone located in or around Oxford (Reading side would be nice) who would maybe be willing to meet for a beer and talk me through the things to look for?

Richard,

I'm between Reading and Oxford, if the guys from Wokingham are up for it we could get together for a beer and a chat somewhere in the middle?

Cheers,
JSG

Matt - if you want some company to look on Sat then I am around all day. Happy to agree on a "no pinching" policy!! it would be interesting to see what a previous owner such as yourself looks for.

on the deposit front, think heart would have been ruling head if i had done that and with hindsight i am pleased i didnt. i need to at least drive an S first, let alone the one I am seriously interested in.

PS - no warranty on the S because of its age.

Shnozz,

Sorry mate but the missus has insisted on coming along, to be the 'voice of reason', as I do have a tendency to let me heart rule my head, especially when it comes to TVR's!!

Boooo!!! Mean Bunch!! For that price I’d have expected some come back.

I’ll let you know how it goes!!

Shnozz,

Sounds pretty nice on paper. It’s a private sale, S3c in BRG with Tan leather, BRG carpets with cream piping, 45k on the clock, spot light bonnet and electric mirrors, its up for £8.5k.

If I don’t buy it and it’s any good I’ll give you a shout – Only reason I might not buy it is that I am being very picky this time around, every thing has to be ‘just so’ - so I suppose it just depends if you are as fussy as me!!

Blimey, what a response cheers people. I'll certainly take up your offers and if everyone meets together should be good fun.

I tried the lost boy look and new bike look on Jo, my wife, last night and it kind of worked and didn't! When I suggested TVRs she didn't really say much... Good start! When I mentioned 'S's again not much, didn't know what they were, but she did ask, 'If you must get a TVR can't you get one of those Griffiths, I like them!'. Well I nearly fell over, so maybe I need to rethink, if I wait a six months or so I could probably scrap enough together to get a Griff but I'll need to think - earlyish Griff Vs late S...

If I was to put my S2(1.5) up for sale: 1989(G) 38,000 on the clock, Blue with Cream interior, excellent condition throughout, Taxed/12 Months MOT, TVRSH to 25,000miles. Could I expect to get a similar amount?

2 yrs older, but loads less miles.....
Just wondering for insurance purposes
Cheers,
Matt.

david - sounds a great car but only colour I am avoiding is white i am afraid. shame, because age, mileage and price are all spot on.
