The TP has started going again. I think.
can someone tell me what and where the TP is. ideally with a picture.
Past threads suggest I disconnect it to check that it's failing. How do I do this and how long can I drive it with this 'bodge'.
Finally, is the part readily available from Ford dealer and can I fit it?
Bear in mind I'm completely useless under the bonnnet and very, very stupid.
I need to learn this, so don't take the pish. Thanks.

yeah, part is from ford dealer - ask for a throttle pot for a 2.9 efi engine and they will get the right part. They will also try and flog you the "new" connector wire or did to me about a month ago. You may or may not need this depending on whether yours has already been updated. I didnt. It will cost you about £50.
Its easy to find and simply unplugs, unbolts, pulls out with ease and replaced in 10 minutes. Best if Pies or someone posts a pic of where it is but its easy enough to spot when you have the replacement to see what it looks like..
PS - if you havent seen one before, be prepared for a shock at the materials you get for £50 - ie - f all.

PS - yes, you can just unplug it and that will tell if you do need a new one or if its somethinge else. Once its unplugged it will go into "get you home mode" so performance not quite so perfect but not that noticeably different IMHO. It can be left like this for as long as you like, just that performance and mpg might be slightlyw orse as it cant "compute" correctly.
BTW - it really is a job that even the most incompetent mechanic can master, so have no fear

if you look towards the front of the engine as it slopes down you will see a small black slightly rectangular plastic piece bolted in place. Its only about 3cm x 4cm and will have a plug into the base of it. Thats the TP
Don't be fooled into thinking this is all plain sailing. You may well find that you have not got the new wiring for the pot.
If you have not got this then you will need to solder the three connections to the exsisting wiring. The colours may not be the same! (mine were not).
they may not sell you the new Gold pot without the new connectors as the new pot will not warrented without it.
All you have to do is ignore the colours and make sure you solder them the same way as the old plug, top, middle and bottom....... got it!
