Hi guys bit of a weird one here, had my car mapped yesterday, tuner found my cars turbo had abit of play in it, more then usual for my model of car. The wheel/blade type thingy inside also didn’t have a lot of clearance inside. Probably explaining it totally wrong but bare with me lol We went for a light tune, and he’s mapped it in such a way that the cams are working harder rather then the turbo itself, think that’s what he said, I’m no expert! Infact it’s my first mapped and turbo car. Obviously I’m slighty worried now, rather get it replaced for peice of mind as I know I’ve now waved goodbye to my warranty, and it frightens the life out of me knowing that if the turbo did get knackered I can potentionally have bits working there way into the engine itself.

Question is are there any engineers out there who can actually refurb turbos in the London area or surrounding? Surely the internals could be replaced right?

Any help appreciated

Turbo developments in Brentford.

https://www.turbodevelopmentsshop.co.uk/?gclid=EAI...

If they don’t have one ready on the shelf for exchange they rebuild your one.

Used by the motor trade for turbo repairs. Even the main dealers send turbos to these guys for repair, have used them many times always good and you get a warranty; fair prices.

You will need to get the turbo removed from your car and take it to them they won’t take it off your car.

Thanks mate appreciate the help, just out of curiosity would it be cheaper to just replace the whole thing? Cars a 2016 golf R. Having it removed by a garage then leaving car with them till works done then replacing seems like an awful lot of Fannying around lol good thing is I work not far from Brentford, I’ll have a word with them on Monday, appreciate the help mate

The Golf R turbos are a bit chocolate anyway. Why not upgrade it whilst you're in there? Speak to TDI Turbos in Verwood, Dorset. They can supply standard and upgraded turbos and have done for years to me in work.

Sounds like best to go back two steps and get a 2nd opinion on your current turbo - if it’s not smoking white oil smoke on Tickover or on full boost and it’s not going into limp mode then 99% likely it’s fine - modern turbos generally good for 150k miles plus with regular oil changes.

Cheers mate will get on to tdi turbos tomorrow. Thing is as mentioned the golf r as a very Weak turbo as it is, I got my car mapped from one of the best in the VAG scene, I think he would know his stuff on turbos etc, but I agree maybe a specialist in turbos should have a check. The thing is he’s put a lot of low down torque on my car now, surely that’s going to stress the turbo more right? Went from 308ft lbs @ I believe 4300 revs to now 394 t lbs at 3100 revs. Surely that’s more work on Turbo? Any one know much about littco turbos in Guildford? Tuner aswell as many others on VAG forums recommend them for a turbo, thing is they want £1050 fitted, and all they do is change the internals on my current turbo- which led me to believe maybe I can have it done closer for a fraction of the price
