These masts are a pilot for the new pay per foot technology that the GLA are proposing. they work by recognising (or not) an electronic tag on the vehicle.

No they aren't....

Given we have just had to deliver connectivty to all of these (there is another new one on the southern side of LB) we know what they are for, and they are for what I said above.

hi guys i was told that the camera thingy,s are an experiment into prepay congestion charging..your car is fitted with a transponder and every time you go under the receiver it logs your car details and takes any money owed..but what they didnt tell the drivers is that it can also tell if u are going fast as u past them..more big brother i reckon

sounds like someone is describing the CC system in Singapore. Unlikely though as in singa you pay a much smaller amount and you pay each journey into the zone rather than one big fee for the day.

Unlikely that they will bother to build something that can recognise if you have paid already.

also, would need to work off something like a Visa Cash Card ... which would need to be properly introduced here ...

whatever it is, you know that it will smack of the Orwellian "Big Brother"
