i found that falling lane is a long road to walk when your smashed out of your skull after a night out drinking at farlows.......getting over the bridge at the turning point on packetboat lane is the hardest part though.

you used to be able to do brilliant jumps over that bridge but iver lane was better though......even though going as fast as you could on the road going past quackers with your lights off at 3am was always a laugh, the times we passed mateys who had gone 'splash' into one of the rivers either side were hillarious.

Such antisocial behaviour would have you in serious trouble now - if they ever catch you

Used to do much the same on the back roads near Aylesbury - right up until I snapped a leaf spring on my escort and sheared all the retaining bolts off on the road (still can't figure that one out but the bolts were an inch shorter afterwards)

you should have seen when i did it in my mk3 2000e back in 1993....after putting 2 look-outs on the bridges and the 'all clear' being shouted over the c.b i took off towards the bridge,i hit it at around 55-60 and went airborne and everything was going great until gravity decided to show how strong it was.......and i came down valence/nose-first abliterating the front end of the car (the 'coke bottle' front was pretty flat) whilst bending the front chassis rails (giving the car a lovely 'banana' look),did the sump and rad, pushed the front suspension legs through the turrets causing the bonnet to bend up at both sides and totally shafting the rear suspension.the car still moved under tow (just!....the wheels werent pointing that straight anymore) and we managed to get her off the main road by dragging it with a mk2 2.8 granada. amazingly the sump didnt fail and spew oil all over the road,it cracked it and was just dribbling slowly out so we threw a load of dirt onto the oil when the car was moved to stop anyone sliding on it and cleared the glass/plastic left by the car to the side of the road.

there was probably more damage but i didnt get chance to see it in the cold light of day as a 'friend' came and took it away on his hiab.....never to be seen again.

i know someone who did the same jump in a transit van, came down arse-end first causing the front to slam into the ground busting the steering arms and he ended up half in-half out the wall at cape boards!

I don't know if you've ever had the chance to experiment with such things but there is a definite fine art to grabbing some air in an automotive sense.

My MkII Escort was beautifully balanced (I didn't realise it at the time) and tended to come down very flat (although I don't think I risked more than about 50), if anything it was slightly tail first which made for softer landings.

An old Cavalier I had on the other hand was definitely nose heavy and was very difficult to get airborn properly as it tended to ditch the nose before the rear really got clear.

For spectacular though you need a mid-engined car, they will happly point the nose in the air and leap for the sky and at relatively low speeds too. The balance of the car tends to stop it rotating too much so it comes down relatively gently rearfirst and with very little damage (if any).

The only real danger of course is that pretty much *every* humpback bridge I've ever found is on a corner making such maneuvers a precision art. Ending up on the wrong side of the road (or far worse) is much too easy

Cowley road from Westdrayton to Uxbridge is a ahem "highish speed road". Oh BTW I live in Westdrayton near the library, check my profile for my car. My fav. road is the one towards the M4 near Stockley park too short though, they used the green bridge for a Citreon commercial not too long ago.

I've seen worryingly close to 3 figures on the speedo on my private road clone of Cowley Road. (not my car)

Have you seen a black Polo G40 around? K *** UVU - belongs to a mate of mine, lives about 2 minutes from you.

Are you a Brunelian by any chance?

I used to be at Brunel - but gave the studying thing up about 8 years ago for something that actually paid money (as opposed to looking like a black hole for my finances - I now have a couple of cars to do that for me).

Anyone know who owns M555 GRF? Saw it driving down cowley road earlier today but sods law as ever, I was in the explorer at the time.

That would be like me going to Imperial College then as they have (had) the cheapest bar prices in South Kensington?

I did genuinely study at both though so I have an excuse

I live in Uxbridge, a stones throw from the Brunel campus. Can anyone recommend some roads? Know some fun ones around oxfordshire, but very little in between.

go up to higher denham train station (b.r line, next to the golf course) and you will start to follow a single track road (nsl),this goes into a 'normal' road but not before some realy fun corners......this road ends up going into a 30 limit after about 4 miles or so,at the 30 limit yank up your handbrake,do a 180 and go for it the other way (which is better imho) but do this road in the day at normal cruising speeds before attempting it at night.

there are also some blinding roads around the chilterns near wendover but be carefull as there is a police presence in the area (due to chequers),
the roads around black park are cool but better at night (again,a cruising daylight run would be advisable first),even though the roads are patrolled by both met and thames valley cars the roads round harefield can be a laugh...harvil road (look out for the sharp right when going through the benzoil 'n'-bend) and breakspear road are excellent for a 'hoon' but obviously use caution and drive these roads first......at the end of breakspear road (after you enter the 30 limit) there is a mini roundabout,if you go straight on you go down a steep hill (you can also get to this hill from harvil road, you go into the town to the roundabout and turn left)......FOR GODS SAKE DONT RACE DOWN THE HILL UNLESS YOU HAVE EITHER A)AN AMPHICAR B)AN ANCHOR TO SLOW YOU DOWN OR C)YOUR GOOD AT SWIMMING as there is a rather evil right hander (and an immediate left over a bridge) at the bottom that runs alongside the grand union canal (the pub was called 'the fisheries' iirc) and alot of cars have either ended up in the fencing or in the canal itself.

there are some excellent roads around the area.......but my own personal favourite is the petworth road that goes from the milford junction of the a3 (20 mins from uxbridge, just past guildford) and goes all the way to the a27 at halnakker (near chichester)......on a clear (non-speedo watching) run you'd be suprised how quickly you can do the run.....i wont say how quick you can do it,but lets say......you could put a c.d on at uxbridge and you wouldnt be able to listen to the full cd before you got there!

have fun out there!!

Hi All,
I grew up in Yiewsley as well, I used to live in Gordon Road, off Falling Lane at the library end. I live in Uxbridge now, on the common opposite the old ski slope, but in 4 weeks I'm off for good to Spain. In the meantime look out for my turquoise Noble (reg. V6GTO), I'm picking it up THIS morning. Martin.

Martin, are you going to bring that along to the Ace Cafe tonight? Would be an excellent opportunity to show it off

Hey,

I worked in Uxbridge for ten years, lived in Eastcote and then 4 years in Iver Heath..... Finally sold my house in May....

Reading back in this thread I saw Iver Lane mentioned..... I used to be given a different hire car each week and all were given the Turbo Boost test.... Best one was actually a Skoda Octavia.

Also when I moved in to the house in Iver, I couldn't resist sending the empty LWB VW transporter over the bridge too!!!! Laugh I nearly shat.....

Am back over couple of times a month and would be good to meet up with local PHers!
