I have been handed the Sacred Chalice of finding the location for the next meeting (dear help me!)

We all understand the basic criteria: Big pub, serving alcohol and decent food, must have a huge carpark, so that we can all park together, and allow Docevil to get a sexy 'group shot'.

However, there have been a few whinges regarding distance and accessibilty ('too, close, it's not worth getting the car out', 'too far away', 'all boring motorway and A-roads', 'must be easy directions, or I'll get lost!' . (OK that last one was me)

Unfortunately we can't accommodate everyone, but please send your comments. Do you want somewhere easy and accessible, or do you want a decent 'run-out' to the meet. How far are you prepared to travel (distance and time). Would you want to travel further for particularly better food. Is a Tuesday night acceptable?

All comments welcome, although if it gets too much I may yet declare the meeting at the Slaughtered Lamb, in the middle of the Pennines, so don't push me too hard!!

Another problem you have is having the date in the subject heading. You can gaurantee that someone will say "can we have it on the 7th instead".

I don't mind where or when, just as long as I can get to Newcastle by 23.30 cos thats when I start work.

I think there's an ultimate challenge here as well. We choose a different pub each time so that when we find one that meets with general approval then that will become the NEPH monthly quaff.

I am keen that it be somewhere we can all reach within an hour. That means it'll need to be south of Newcastle and north of Sedgefield.

Good pubs so far:
Dalton Lodge - good food, good carpark, too far south
Ramside Hall - good food, good carpark, too close for some

I take it the ramside was OK then? Thought about turning up in the rover but was busy with work anyway, so gave it a miss.

Please take the 'too close' bit with a pinch of salt - locals can always have a run out somewhere beforehand or join a north or south group if we're that sad

No such thing as a 'bad pub'.

Some are just 'better' than others.........

So, what's the venue?
Tvrbob said he'd found the perfect place but didn't say where.

Just a quick post from work - my home internet/e-mail has gone blaaah, so I may be offline for a day or two. Bob, if you've found somewhere promising, post away mate. I'll still take the credit later if it's good, and it's your fault if it's pants!

well...by a strange coincidence I have acquired a penthouse apartment overlooking the beach for free, the days are exceedingly hot, the women also, the beer is very cheap, and I drive as fast as I want on any road out of town! the motorways are wider and straighter than ours so if I need to go anywhere I just hold the loud pedal down and wait a short while and I'm there! the only downside is some of the tourists are alarming gobby and charvery....on the whole though, the portuguese approach to life is fairly straightforward...basically everyone just rubs along pretty nicely! I have just discovered this internet cafe so I will post a bit more frequently from now on.

p.s say hello to everyone for me, especially bob as before I decided to move to portugal I planned to have a run out with him! ciao for now fellows
