PHer Drag Race

Have NEPHers ever considered a drag racing day at York Dragstrip. Could meet up with Yorkshire PHers and have a TVR v Ferrari v Porsche shootout. Might be an idea for next summer?

If you're talking about Elvington then yes the NYTVRCC do from time to time. I'm not sure whether any of the active NEPHers have been though.

There`s a dragstrip on the outskirts of York called York Raceway. At most of their events they have `Run Wot U brung` where roadcars can race for around £15. All you need is a helmet and a driving license. You also get to see some stupidly fast cars and bikes. You should have a look on their website.

Sounds interesting. I've got the wrong rubber on my rears for standing starts though. Have you driven a car there?

I have done quite a few years ago when I was driving mark 2 escorts and 3Ltr Capri`s and stuff. It would be nice to see what time I could run the 1/4 in the Chim though.

I've done a RWYB day at Elvington but only trusted the Cerb for four runs up the strip.

I enjoyed myself tremedously, about the same amount as the track day at Croft and it was great racing against Scoobies and Skylines, showing them what British beef could do. Only car that was faster on the day was a highly tuned Skyline, but I still beat him on the top speed run.

I'd say as a one off event, it might work, but you need a lot of faith in your transmission as standing starts are very stressfull on the car. On the other hand, the car might break down on the run out to Asda, so might aswell have it break down having some fun.....

I know what you mean about not wanting to break anything, I`d be the same but it`d still be fun for a couple of runs. It`d be good to see how the Tivs faired against other marques too. It`s also good to see 1950`s Ford Pops and stuff running 9 or 10 second standing 1/4`s.

Sounds like fun, I wouldnt dream of flogging my motor around croft it would fall to bits, but this sounds like it could be a good day out.

I mentioned the place a while back, as I'm a fan of dragracing.

I'm sure you guys would love it. Needs to be a dry day though.

I would expect drag racing to put a lot of stress on the drive gear. Engine mounts, CV joints, gearbox, diff, rear tyres, etc. I would hope though that most of our cars to be up for this level of punishment.

I would`nt want to totally thrash the arse off my car either but I suppose if you don`t go too wild off the start line then after that its just a quick blast through the first 3 gears or so. I bet you all do that now and again anyway!?
