Would it be OK for me to come up from the lakes to meet you at Rheged and do at least part of the route if the car is OK.
It would be good to meet some other PHers, I have not been to an 'event' before.

Yes Stefan, but you're not building the PC in East Grinstead, Surrey. So driving down to Surrey for Saturday on Friday night, buiding a PC, then driving to Oxford to see the GF then back to Newcastle on Saturday night, to leave on Sunday to drive around the Lakes; al in all could prove a little tiring and costly.

Pah, you wooser! I've done St. Austell (Cornwall) and back in a day from Teesside. Eyes like p155-holes in snow afterwards mind... also drove from northern Denmark, via Germany, Holland, Belgium to France and back through the Channel Tunnel to Leicester - in a day. In a van.

Huh, you were lucky lad.

In t'old days........................

..... and we ad ta walk 7 mile t't nearest village to find out t't time cos we cudent affoad a clock !...

I just wish I could have attended. It seems like it's going to be a good day out and I hope you all enjoy yourselves.

It's just such a shame my little darlings have exams to do. Daughter is being taken to dancing exam by the missus and I've got the son to take to footie. I don't know where he got the football bug - certainly not off me, I can't kick a ball to save my life, but he seems to have a natural flair for it. He's even got a coach now and he's only bloody seven.

This is a first for me.

I may need to back out, I have tradesmen coming to fix my cable supply. Things may change so I'll keep you informed.

Seems a bit pointless numbers wise to run the event and start ringing places to book us into tea... I guess this means the event is "Cancelled" so to speak.

If the weather is fine I'm still going as I'll take pictures, anyone is welcome to join me but I'll be stopping whenever I see a photo oportunity rather than going for a drive

I'm hoping to confirm either way by Tuesday, but presently it's looking OK.

I'm still up for a run out if the 'official' day is cancelled. My culinary skills are legendarily bad, but I could probably manage to organise myself a packed lunch!

lets do that then, I'm heading over if the weather is fine, but won't be producing notes / maps. I'm heading for a fun day out taking pictures rather than a drive as it were. As such, we'll be likely to get lost

The official day is "cancelled" due to lack of interest but plans to meet up around 10:30 at Reghed assuming fine weather still exist.

Paul, since you don't have an email address listed... I'm picking a mate up in the town around 8ish, if you can, send me an email via my profile or here and we'll sort out a meeting place.

OT : Wendy did you get my email?

Looks like I somehow slipped from the 'Going' list to the 'Maybe' list without saying anything....

If it's on and it's not chucking it down, I'm in, if it's a 'dawdle while stopping taking pictures' then I'm out.

Cheers

Ditto for me, it'll very much be weather permitting for me too now, and if its a purely picture taking exercise then I would probably rule myself out.

Anyway, my email is uk_pbirkett(AT)hotmail.com if you want to arrange something and clarify what is going to happen on the day.

Oh well, Crying shame really - my first event to organise falls on it's face

It's a crapper, but I don't see the point organising the run when only 4 or 5 people want to go, especially when the roads thats we'd be on don't promote fast driving - it'd be a dwadle regardless of if we stop regulary or not (something I said at the top of this thread).

I guess this means the event is cancelled for good this time - I won't bother to re-organise it for a third time (although it was my "fault" the first time went boobs-up, sorry!).

If anyone wants to know the main roads that we'd have been going on email me and I'll send you details

Don't be disheartened

If your going to organise something, do it because you want it done in a particular way and you'll be happy doing it, regardless of people turning up.

That way, you still have fun and if people turn up, it's a bonus.

Come spring, I'll be organising a drag day at either Elvington or York Dragstrip. I'm not bothered if anyone else comes because I'm going regardless. The more the merrier of course.

Well said Byff, that's my motto. Sometimes it's worth going out on a limb, like with Croft, but I only do it when I have more interested people than I need. That way if half drop out as always happens, it's still viable. Going to Shafto's or on a road run is easy. I'll go anyway and if others choose to join in then all the better.
