For the last 2 months i ve been off the beers. As from next Friday i will be catchin up on 2 months of beer. Does anyone know any good country pubs with good food (bonus) around Leicestershire or even notts, Derby or Northampton. Some rough direction would be nice to.
Thanks

i know one a great pub ( not really a country pub but good all the same, my local The Cow and Plough on the Evington / oadby border, leicester ( down the road from the Bupa Hospital. Traditional Ales, Ciders, Fruit Wines, and great food.

I highly recommend The Shires Inn in Peatling Parva Leiecestershire, just outside lutterworth. The food is fantastic, and the roads around that area are fantastic too.

The Poacher's Bistro in the Dog n Gun at Thurlaston is very nice. Just off the A47 outside Leicester.

The Red Lion in West Haddon, Northants is very nice and has a superb restaurant.

The other gem I found the other week is the new Thai restaurant just off the A5 at Watford (village in Northants, not North London). Converted pub (used to be the Stags Head from memory) and it is absolutely sensational.....guaranteed lady pleaser and a decent selection of sweet car in the car park to boot.

Do not trust this man's foodie recommendations, they will probably just serve Pot Noodle with Lemongrass!

I might make an effort to get to the Northants ones as they are not too far from me.

I recommend trying 'The Mussel & Crab' at Sibthorpe Hill, Tuxford. Just of the A1 at Markham Moor. Just won the Les Routiers Restaurant of the Year for Midlands & East of England.

Never had a bad meal there yet.

It is called the Thai Garden (01327) 703621. Taking my wife there tomorrow night for her birthday. She is a Thai food nut and really enjoyed it last time we went.

I would book as it is getting a real reputation in the area and is busy at peak times.

I only eat the slag of snacks to get rid of the taste of Jack Daniels while squatting in a tent village at certain car events, then I put the taste buds back in the next morning.

Happy eating.

For a pukka country pub try The Falcon in Long Whatton. Good food and a very "country" pub atmosphere, everyone is really freindly though. Ask if Deb, Carol, Sue or Richard is on the bar, if so tell them Matt sent you and you should get a free beer or two

The yews inn at Great Glen leicester has good food and some ace roads around it, such as around the Langtons, decent countryside also
