I live in Nottingham, no Mapperley but i know of it.

It is a nice enough area, some local shops on the high street that are nice.

Its not the easiest to get to the M1, would have to navigate the ring road to go Juntion 26, but when the link road to J24 is finally finished next year, it should be a little better.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah looking on the map I thought M1 access might not be the easiest.

Property prices dont seem to bad considering its proximity to the city centre. Just from a google street view explore it looks nice enough. No burnt out cars on street corners wink

No its a pretty decent area

I live in Rise Park, easy access to M1 via J26, cheap houses for the size (3 bed detached for £160k) and most have garages.

Plus is a 1960 estate mainly inhabited by the original owners (OAPs) so is nice and quiet and people generally look after thier houses/yards.

It's nice if you like hills!

I grew up just down the road in Carlton, Mum still lives there. I live t'other side of Nottingham but have some friends in Mapperley so still know it reasonably well.

It's certainly not the ideal side of Nottingham to get to from the M1. Might get better when they finish the A453 upgrade and if they ever finish the tram works.

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

It's ok as far as it goes. The shopping area is small but varied although parking can be a real issue. Schools are ok, M1 access isn't that difficult and town is only a short distance away.
It depends what you're looking for bur personally I prefer it in the sticks smile
The earlier post about hills is no joke either smile

I always find it a bit strange. Some lovely big houses in leafy roads..and yet some of it borders on St Anne's which is one of the more dodgy areas of Nottingham. You can almost draw a line where comfortable suburbia merges with something completely different.

(I work at a security company, and we looked after a refuge in neighbouring St Annes. The most common fault we had to fix was the cameras had been shot)

They have at least moved the hookers on from Mapperley Road...I don't know if you'll see that as a positive or a negative? hehe

As said, not the best access for the motorway, but probably only 25 minutes even at peak times.

St Ann's not St Anne's smile
I used to live there as well, and it is rough, could you get a taxi home at night?!

I used to live in Mapperley. It's okay.

There's a Wetherspoon, which wasn't hugely chavvy last time I went in.

There's a cheesecake shop. I've never been in but gather they sell more than just cheesecake. They'd need to right?

There is a high street of sorts which has most of the shops you'll need and, I think, at least one bank.

It's handy for Nottingham, but not for the M1.

It's not somewhere I would actively look for housing, though Mapperley Park is leafy and quite nice with some interesting properties.

Bramcote and Wollaton are possibly a bit nicer and have a better access to the m1 although prices of property reflect this, you pays your money etc.......

This.

And I too grew up in Carlton (just off westdale lane) and don't live too far away now in stoke bardolph.

Worked on Mapperley top for years too. Decent enough area reasonable links etc.

We looked all over Nottingham and finally settled on Rise Park too.

As you say, great access to the M1, good prices and nice neighbours. Also the added bonus of easy access to the country park if you need to take the dog for a walk.

Worth a look. Just a shame about the lack of a decent pub!
