For several years I lived in St Albans & Nottingham. Say hello to a stranger in Snalbans & they think you've escaped. In Nottishamshire don't say hello & they think the same.

Mate, you've been spoiled...parking is dirt cheap compared to softy south, traffic moves well and yes there problems but nowt compared to most places. It's a sign of the times.

....but yes, the tram thing is a bit mental

I spent what felt like an eternity commuting out on the A453 whilst they were dualling it, only to leave just before it was done.

Despite having no need, I’m tempted to drive back just to see what it’s like now.

Do that thing. You'll love it. I lived in North Yorkshire & simultaneously Nottisham. Was the best of both worlds.

Sal is still here, as is Rock City. Narrowboat was demolished as part of the canal side regeneration.

Was 4/1 during the week at one time. Players factory employed 9,500 or thereabouts, mostly women. I can remember Thursday nights being quite scary! (But fun)

Went to live in Coventry in 1981, not exactly a step up in the world.

Nottingham has to be one of the better towns in the UK.

Fuelled by eleventeen pints I thought I could fly from one side of the balcony to the other. I can still visualise the Saturday night crowd parting below me as several mates were dangling me over the edge!

Castle Boulevard, Abbey Bridge, University Boulevard are jammed 90% of the time so something clearly needs to be done. Nottingham has it's mad half hour for traffic, but is actually amazing really for a largish city. I've just driven from the ring road to the city up Derby Road. OK it was 7.38, but it took me six minutes & there was no queuing. I've lived in a fair few places & it's by far & away the best for traffic. (A similar journey at this time in Cambridge for example would be about an hour). St Albans would die to have the equivalent of Nottingham rush hour at any time of the day (or night!) and that's tiny.

The cycle lane they've put in on Castle Boulevard is ridiculous though. It makes this major road too thin. To make it worse 90% of the bleedin' cyclists still use the canal towpath.

Tram is handy but loses £1m per week. Since they took off the conductors a lot of people just hop on & off for free.
