Derby Road at 08.41 this morning. How bizarre is that for one of the maybe dozen main entrances to the city?

I can't think of anywhere else I've ever lived that you'd be able to see tarmac that time of day!

Indeed. I would expect it to be jammed with people visiting the city, after your scintillating promotion of the place.
Im starting to wonder if he works for the city promoting it!
I thank you! hehe (I'm off to the council to collect my fee)

roflroflrofl

Love it!

I stopped getting the bus that runs along that route as it took so long due to the traffic, but our resident Nottingham fanboi (Hi Jon Collins!) takes a picture implying Nottingham is some sort of traffic free Nirvana!

It's nice that you feel so passionate about the place, but remove the rose tinted glasses for a minute, eh?
My iphone doesn't have a rose filter hehe It was just a photo taken at 08.45 ish this morning. biggrin

The tall building in the second pic was my main university building. Spent a lot of time in there.
Trent Poly in my day. We used to be able to get onto the roof of the tall tower. Great views!
Found the photos from the top of Newton:

The Nottingham Post was where the Corner House complex is now in the pic above

Looking back towards Sandby Hall. The new Uni buildings would now obscure this view.

Can I point out to anyone thinking of visiting Nottingham on the basis of the above that Yates's isn't black and white anymore. It is in fully technicolour, for better appreciation of the pools of vomit therein.

Langtry's and The Trip have now been coloured in properly.

In the pics above Langtry's is the Pear Tree!

I was in Sandby Hall in 1987, think my room was 131, it was one of those windows!

I went back to Nottingham about 4 years ago and had a walk around the area of the old student union building, so many new Uni (it always be Trent Poly to me) buildings.
I was in room 50, 1978-79

The first sign you used to see when entering the city over Trent Bridge. Always made me chuckle.

(I found it when looking for the Newton building pics

Anyone remember Zhivagos nightclub under the Victoria Centre?

From what I remember it was 2 (very steep) flights down, shudder to think what would happen if there was a fire down there
Yep! We saw the only ones there. (Plus several stooodent events)

Yup. Also Madisons (got into an argument with Brian Kilkline in there).
Isabellas, Hippo/Camelots and Toffs on Trent Bridge. The Boat, the Brit and the Union also. I saw Def Leppard at the Boat when they were a Thin Lizzy cover band.
If you came out of Madisons and turned right up Wollaton Street there was another club on the left. I had my 21st there and got into a massive brawl outside after. Was it Samantha’s?

The first club I ever went to was called Liberty and was in the exact same area.

This would have been around 1985 though.

Great days!!!
Just Googled it, Liberty's was just behind on Upper Parliament St.

It seems that about 99% of posters on this topic are just relating the student day piss ups & city center watering holes. Back on topic, it seems Nottingham is not a good place to bring up your kids, which I can very well believe.

Yep, the city certainly does have its problems.

I've just emailed the Broadmarsh section of the council.

The bus gate (with 20+ signs warning you before you get there plus a signed escape route) is now just 200 yards. To avoid it you need to do a 1.5 mile detour. That must mean hundreds of thousands of extra miles driven for no real reason.

The only way to enter the swanky new car park is to approach from London Road, then Canal Street & then turn right into the car park. It's plain mad.

It's camera mad in that few hundred yards too, maybe 6 or 7!

I don't think it can be true, but I'm being told the new bus station is too low to accept double deckers. As I say, it can't be true but I did chuckle at the thought of when they did a test entry hehe

We went to the Xmas market last week, parked in the new fancy multi story - which was quite a nice car park - signs telling you exactly where the spaces were, lights above each space in red or green to indicate full or empty etc.

However driving in Nottingham is a complete pain in the arse, I despise it.
I am a serial moaner hehe About 10% of us men are red green colour blind. Why not light on/light off?

Nottingham is one of the better cities to drive in.....but only if you are very local with local knowledge. All satnavs are inaccurate, be they Google maps or inbuilt satnavs.

I've not been back for about 25 years.

Went to Uni there.

Lived in Radford, Meadows and West Bridgford.

Keep thinking of going back for a laugh.
I was at Trent in the 1970s....never went home. You'd find lots the same, and masses different.

I live behind Maid Marian Way so need to walk past the Laguna, 4550 Miles from Delhi, Calcutta Club, Maharaja's Retreat, Memsaab & at a push Cumin to get to the Mogul. As a result not been there for years.

All of the Maid Marian Way curries are excellent...Calcutta Club possibly one of the best in the land.

Ah my University city. I so wanted to stay there after graduating that I spent a year working full time in a pub (The Grove Hotel, Lenton Boulevard)
The Grove is now an abandoned shell. It will end up being student accommodation like nearly every other building in Nottingham.
