Stratford Upon Avon hotel / eatery recommendations.
Discussion
We're off to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre soon and are thinking of staying the night before.
So we'll need a good restaurant for the night before, hotel and lunch the following day. All ideally convenient for the RST.
We'll have some children with us, so Italian / modern British / grill / fish would be ideal.
PH wisdom is rarely wrong about these things, so suggestions please.
Sorrento's is the best Italian in town, 5 min walk from the theatre. Some nice bistros on Sheep Street (lambs, the oppo, and a couple of others) , all pretty similar fare, they cater for pre theatre diners, Book to avoid disappointment
I've never stayed there, but the company I worked for used to put people up in the Macdonald Alveston hotel. Seemed to go down OK and centrally located.
Lunch, just fall in anywhere that suits, Carlucio's by the river, loads of OK pubs, but we tend to use The Old Thatch. The Dirty Duck is right by the RSC and used by theatre staff.
Town centre is compact so everything is a 5-10 min walk.

Alveston is a peculiar place, having spent a day there in meetings a few weeks ago. Restaurant is poor at best!
Crown Plaza is used by most contractors working for us at the moment. That, the Swan's Nest or the Double Tree Hilton are all options.
Ahh yes, my cousin stopped @ the crown plaza, he thought it was OK. Crown Plaza is used by most contractors working for us at the moment. That, the Swan's Nest or the Double Tree Hilton are all options.
Hotel du vin recently added a place in Stratford - I’ve been in for drinks but not stayed or eaten. If it’s as good as Cheltenham and Bristol (for food) I can’t imagine it would disappoint.
Lambs is very nice for dinner, also, One Elm is a nice central pub for a down-to-earth (I.e. child friendly gastro pub) pub lunch - book a table upstairs.. (It’s our go-to place in Stratford on weekends, we live a 15min walk away).

I haven't seen the rooms but reception, bar and restaurant are dull as ditch water, no atmosphere and looks out over an exercise yard. Edited by EllipticSwerve on Monday 30th December 18:25

The Riverside hotel opposite the theatre is good, also the Falcon Hotel has recently been refurbed and looks nice but I haven't seen the rooms. The White Swan is nice downstairs, but again I haven't seen the rooms.
The Welcome (Hallmark) hotel just outside Stratford is very nice.
Lambs / The Oppo and The Vintner on Sheep Street are good restaurants, the Theatre itself has a restaurant but it's not as nice as the previous mentioned
The Garrick pub is very old and rustic and nice for a drink can get busy, and the same with the Dirty Duck near the theatre.

We visited mid last year and stayed at the White Swan, I was impressed by the rooms and the breakfast was lovely.

We also ate at Lambs, I would recommend it.
