Folks dont need to cry off because they have got something on at 6pm, so have I, and so has Tom, but the pub and the PH'ers arent going anywhere. The meet is due to start at 7pm. I will be there sometime between 7pm and 11pm.
this is true.
I have a meeting at 5:30 likely to last until 7:30 but that means my eta is only 8:00, and that's not too late!

ok, sounds like an oil pressure problem perhaps..hmmm.
I will have a look on tuesday
unlikely to be anything oil pressure related tom unless it's generating about 500psi and physically increasing the load on the pump lol.
trouble with the injected minis is that the mixture distribution problems of the carb versions are exacerbated.
the mini uses what's termed a wet manifold system, ie you spray fuel into the manifold which doesn't completely get distributed into the airstream, but relies on heat in the manifold vapourising the rest, and this constant wetting of the manifold goes some way to getting over the charge robbing effect of the siamesd inlet ports. the downside is that any weakening of the mixture causes significant running problems as the first port of any sucking pair gets a very weak mixture.
we'll probably have to ask a few questions about what's been done so far, but the closed loop trimming (possible exhaust leak) and/or throttle postion sensosor are top of my list at the moment on the limited info we have so far... it could also be that the mini's notrious crankcase breathing problems are affecting the closed loop trim, or that oil sludge is just blocking the idle bypass reducing the base idle airflow.
if we can make a few educated guesses tom can get his spanners out and tinker a bit, i might have to leave early though depending on how i get on with the race car today ...
see you all tonight.

ha!
seems I failed to notice the part when you mentioned 'injection'
I had oil surge problems causing the syptoms above, quite common on thrashed engines apparently
I'm thinking, fuelling, breathing (any filters on the crankcase?) got to be a mixture thing I suppose really, wonder how hard it is to turn the idle up on an injection model? that would be a short term fix until it could get to a rolling road...
Hope it stops raining though, the boy fish doesn't like rain yet
Neil, seeing as I don't know what time we will set off, we'll see you there.
Do you lot stand outside or go in the pub??? I'm just conscious that I don't want to be annoying if the boy Fish has an off night and persists in crying...

well proves you never stop learning .. in 20 years of owning and working on minis I've never heard that one.
It was about a year ago when my mechanical knowledge was a lot worse than it is now.. I kept losing all the oil pressure and the engine would just die.. would only restart when pointing downhill or if over full with oil to begin with! basically it was shagged

OK, no problem. We have to stop en route to collect some vaccination papers for the kitten anyway.
Well, standing outside seems to be normal but given the weather.....he'll be fine, if anyone complains about him crying we can set Tom on them.

I reckon the rain is in for the duration, but the pub is nice and cosy, we will probably be the only ones there anyway, so no worries about fish junior singing off key
Tom, I have a very interesting coffee table for you.
good, cos he is being a pain this afternoon
