South Yorks Scamerati have just pulled a flanker.

The Truvelo on Hathersage Road A625 near Dore Moor Inn has been uprooted and moved to the other side of the road closer to Sheffield.

If you're hoofing it from Whirlow, you'll have to be pretty quick to avoid it as it's now hidden beyond the bend before Long Line.

Bastids.

I can see no reason for this. It protects the Long Line crossroads, but I've never seen a high speed incident there. All the other accidents (bar the TVR) have been in the opposite direction, closer to Whirlow.

It will, of course, raise far more money than its previous location.

Thanks for the info, I assume it is still in the NSL. Normally ease off there anyway.

Yes, but they were talking about downgrading it to 50.

It's safe at much higher speed late at night with no traffic, but you'd have no chance of seeing the yellow box unless you knew about it.

Typical, I was suprised they didn't change the limit after putting the box up. normally the sort of trick they play. I soppose the argument for it is to protect the cross roads. I'll stick to going over Ringinglow instead, and dodging the sheep.

Good suggestion. I do that.

Keep an eye on events, the Park authority and/or Derbyshire Council have it in mind to stop us.

Various suggestions have been made, including bus only access to Burbage and blocking the road at the bridge.

Another forum intent on making us all drive everywhere at 25mph. Reading some of their plans it would seem that they have completly neglected the fact that it is a well used commuter route and not just a senic drive out for tourists. As a dirver, climber and local resident some of these groups are infuriating to say the least.

That's the point they're trying to push. They reckon it should'nt be used as a commuter route. They say we should use the A625 for that.

Learned all this when I objected to the blanket 40 limit. They sent me minutes of relevant meetings.

The official reason for the limit was to save sheep from high speed impact! I suggested a fence, but this was rejected because it would inconvenience ramblers and spoil the view.

It seems they hadn't noticed the fence on the other side of the road that's been there since life began!

Now there are fenced areas beyond Burbage bridge all over the place. Ramblers must be beside themselves.

Interestingly, police objected to the limit but were pursuaded to withdraw when they were assured the limit would be "self enforcing", whatever that means!

Interestingly also.....One year on, post-limit, they were calling for enforcement because sheep deaths had increased!

These people are a threat to freedom and need to be watched. They think the only people worthy of enjoying the views are those who can devote a day to getting there by bus and walking about. Why the hell should we be denied that delight on the way to work?

Grrrrr..........

I completly agree with you.

Enjoying the views (whilst also enjoying the road) are what helps me put up[ with the Sheffield traffic and poor roads on a daily basis. Interestingly shortly after the 40 was put in place I was unfortunate enough to be pursued by an unmarked plod car over there. When stopped his justification for the 40 limit was to point out a few sheep in his video footage.

Do they not realise why we don't all use the A road. ie. excessive traffic etc. These policies of trying to force people omto certain routes only serve to increase congestion, frustration and untimately accidents on these routes.

I can't see why a fence with a few stiles in it wouldn't make the lace much safer and save the sheep (consequently paying for the fence in a few months). I soppose that would be far too logical.

Sort of, I was followed for a bit but he hadn't managed to time me between 2 points. Pulled me over and said he would reccomend that I was done for inconsiderate driving. I ended up being offered one of those driver improvement courses, 2 days off work £100 but no points.

For a couple of months afterwards they had a few cars up there but not seen anything actually in North Lees extate since.

They do occaisionally put the tempory gatso in ringinlow village (well they did last summer). It is normally well signed though.
