Anyone else going?

World Series by Renault. (x2)
Formula Renault UK (x2)
Eurocup F Renault 2.0
Eurocup Megane Trophy
Clio Cup UK

and an F1 display and other stuff.

My tickets arrived in the post today.

We could make it a bit of a PH meet.

I'll be there, if my tickets arrive!

IIRC they were being posted in August? You got yours quite soon.

I thought August as well. This far ahead I will probably misplace them by September!

No Panic.

www.donington-park.co.uk/tickets/default.asp?dept=general&meeting=050911

has a number to ring and reference to the Renault Sport web site. However that site, as far as I can tell, has only this about the weekend which confirms it is free but does not say write for tickets. So I guess it's just turn up on the day!

www.renaultsport.co.uk/championships/worldseries/

Cool.

I wonder how many people will realise and wish to be there. Have they planned for the traffic ...?

Got my tickets!

We're just going on the Sunday where the day starts at 9:00am. What with traffic and all, what do people expect would be a reasonable time for setting off from Manchester to get there for 9:00am?

I'll be wearing my Pistonheads.com Le Mans 2005 T shirt.

Just realised how September seems to be rapidly filling up already. I think that's every weekend now taken up with motor-related stuff.
I think it's about time I found some other hobbies

Depends which part of Manchester. Uni area to Donington via M6/M50 takes about 1.5 hrs or a little less if traffic keeps moving.

Whether there will be any special traffic arrangements I don't know - haven't heard of anything so far.

Free tickets/entry might mean a shed load of people turn up or it might mean that a load of tickets are sent out but few people turn up. It may all hinge on the weather on the days.

Was at Donington yesterday for a trackday and by the look of the signs that are up along the road past the airport they are expecting it to be busy.
The road has signs up saying that it'll be one way all the way to the track from there all day, so it's that way in and via Donington village home

So it was you making all that noise then!

I'm wondering how busy it will be. I guess it depends on the weather. Since it's free if the weather is good I would guess a lot of people will take up the offer of a family day out that will only cost petrol and refreshment money. (So that will be a mortgage extension but only part of a limb then ...)

If, on the other hand it is marginal to bad on the weather front a free ticket is just something for the re-cycling bin.

Assuming those who pre-order have, shall we say, 'plenty' of tickets I would imagine that the organisers are predicting a large turn out. 'twill be interesting to see just how big.

I wonder if I could sign on as an official photographer for PH and so find more than two locations for a reasonable close-to-the-track shot without fencing?

If your planning on going have a look at this before you set off, special routes are in place depending which way your coming, with special car parks.
And it looks like no infield parking.........

So, See Red, with the VSCC, hundreds and hundreds of new and classic Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis, Alfa Romeos etc etc etc, not to mention a Spitfire and DHL Jumbo doing aerobatics. They had over 20 Maserati 250F's there all in one place and they raced them, but it barely rates a mention on PH.

But a Renault thing gets this response

What am I missing?

Well, see red sounded nice - don't remember the DHL Jumbo though. All a bit exclusive though so maybe the PH entries are all in the Ferrari and Maserati forum?

Renault, by comparison, have been giving away ticket by the bucket load at every dealer and for some months. So they have offloaded 100,000 tickets apparently. And I believe it's free on the gate as well. So the road management is to be pretty much the same as for the MotoGP and the Download festival I guess, based on the numbers.

Now, there are a few posts elsewhere on PH where people with 4 tickets have changed their plans. I have a number of tickets myself but doubt they will all be used. So the authorities are planning for 100,000 but I would be surprised if that many, or even close to that many, turn up. Especially if it is wet.

But I think the free ticket thing is what you may not have fully allowed for BG.

Now, if the refreshments were free as well ... hmm.

Well I was there -was anyone else.
The Formula Renault was something else and the F1 demo. super. Never thought I'd like a Megane but those racers were amazing. Of course they are not Meganes at all really. Anyone get any good pictures?

I found myself in the paddock today when the F1 demo was on - but I did see it on track yesterday with Arnoux at the wheel and suspect I am probably one of very few who did before he parked it in the gravel at Coppice ...

I have to admit I was really impressed with the whoe thing -not to stressed - all the teams sitting under their awnings having lunch in the lunch hour - very continental. All the drivers taking each other of the track. Now on Saturday that was not unexpected given the conditions but on Sunday I think it's fair to say the British series condentders showed the others how to keep the cars on track, especially at Redgate. The World Series by Renault boys in race 2 gave the marshalls at Redgate plenty of exercise. The place looked like it had been sublet to NCP for duration of the race. I noticed that after the traditional first lap induced safety car period they gave up deploying the SC and just removed offenders under waved yellows. I think all 45mins would have been run under the SC otherwise. We counted 7 off at Redgate/Hollywood and two others who went off but got going again

Still, with fields of 30 or more cars I guess it is to be expected.

I too was impressed with the Meganes - race one in the wet and dark on Saturday was pretty entertaining as well. As I said on another thread - at least the shaking ass seems to have a purpose on those! I think the rear light clusters and a couple of badges are from real Meganes - that's about it.

Most of my photos are, hopefully, on 35mm which I will try to get processed tomorrow but I'll prep a few of the other and post them shortly.
