Are the previous owners of The Knockerdown completely gone and away from the place? I and many others won't go anywhere near the place if they're still involved or are around.

Was my understanding that they retired and sold up, so I doubt they are involved.

We are having sold out open day event on the 2nd of January but will be open every weekend from then on, with plans to open up more as we get busier through spring. I popped up this morning for breakfast with a friend; it’s a nice spot. The drive there for me is good because we can make a nice loop there and back on sone good roads really enjoyed my breakfast too.

We’re already plotting another trip up with a few others.

We went past the Knockerdown on the way home. No one else was there as it was early so we just headed home.

Looks like it; we were there just a bit early and didn’t fancy sitting in there on our own. It’s open for food etc, which I guess makes sense having bought it. Leaving it to fester doesn’t help.

Yea its handy having it his new one in my village.
But I will always support the original Caffeine and machine as well As Ignition, which is half hour away.

The Bowl
After nearly five years of blood, sweat, tears and utter joy building what has become the much-loved home of UK car culture, we’re beyond excited to announce that C&M is expanding its footprint and opening a second location in Bedfordshire.

We’re calling it Caffeine&Machine: The Bowl, and it’s opening in Autumn 2023, joining The Hill as the second in a series of permanent, ever-evolving homes for the Cult of Machine. We’ll be sharing some more details very soon, but in the meantime, see our FAQs below for answers to any questions you might have.


Frequently asked questions

Is it true?
Yes! You might have heard whispers, but this is us officially confirming that a second location is happening and will be opening very soon. Any information that we publicly confirm on future locations will be confirmed here and on our social channels – anything else you hear is just rumour.

Where is The Bowl?
The Bowl is located in rural Bedfordshire. We’ll announce the exact address as soon as we’re ready to, but in the meantime, while our team and contractors are hard at work getting the site ready, we're going to keep the exact location under wraps.

When will The Bowl open?
Currently, we’re scheduled to open during early Autumn 2023. Like the location, we’ll announce an exact opening date as soon as we’re ready to.

Can I work there?

How similar will The Bowl be to The Hill?
The Bowl will bring everything you love about Caffeine&Machine’s first site, The Hill, to a new location – that means brilliant food and drink, a signature on-site store, and of course, an awesome and ever-changing myriad of machinery in the Yard. That said, it’ll have its own distinct style and feel, as well as some site-specific apparel a little further down the line.

Will I be able to stay at The Bowl?
Currently, we don’t have plans to offer accommodation at The Bowl. Don’t forget you can still stay at The Hill though!

I thought your second location was going to be in Derbyshire?
We had planned to open The Knockerdown Inn ('The Knock') near Ashbourne as a Caffeine&Machine location. Our planning application was sadly rejected by Derbyshire Dales District Council in December 2022. We have since revised our plans and submitted a second planning application that is currently being considered.

Whilst we await a decision, we decided to re-open The Knock as a family-friendly country pub offering food, drink and camping serving the local community and tourists. This is not currently a Caffeine&Machine, but anyone is welcome to visit and enjoy the facilities and hospitality from David

That’s a really good choice. A nice big site (though flat and featureless) but you’ll have plenty of manufacturers in the area for Millbrook who will call in.

Some digging and I found the plans. I reckon that is it. Has a similar feel to the other one and lots of parking available.

It is indeed the old Chequers pub at Houghton Conquest. About twenty mins from me instead of the 1hr 45ish to Ettington. I’m actually really excited about this. Opening 14th Sept.
