Went past the old ignition site today. I had to double take, so spun around and stopped by.
Nothing to do with ignition cars and coffee by the way.

Detailers moved in?

The new location is pretty good; lots more room. It’s just not much fun driving over there from here.

It looks like a more interesting site than The Bowl, but they could be fighting for years to get planning permission. Probably the best option.

I hope it gets sold for housing - and then I can snigger as the same locals all come out the woodwork even more annoyed.

My parents (who live in Hognaston) friends who own Hopton Hall purchased the Knockerdown a few months a go. It’s been refurbed and is back operating as a pub. A good Sunday lunch apparently!

I was originally against the venue, but as I got a motorbike I soon realised it wood have been a good spot for an early morning coffee and sandwich. So a shame.

I went along to Ignition's monthly cars & coffee this morning. 1 person taking food and drink orders, as as far as I could see at least 4 people serving, yet some how it still took over 20 minutes for a coffee!

How was this new venue? I have not been yet, but I did book in to go on the 30th of December. But due to the weather did not go (wasted £5 booking fee). Don't really like the idea of booking fees though.
But what's the place and atmosphere like? Thank.

I’ve been on the opening weekend and enjoyed it. There’s loads more space than they has at their old venue. There was a good turnout of interesting cars too.

I can't compare it to the previous place because I didn't go to it. There was some really nice cars the opening weekend, but the service for food and drink is appalling. Personally I haven't there to be much of an atmosphere yet.

ETA: The above is about Ignition's new venue, not the second C&M site.

I booked for New Year’s Eve, but turned up and left within five minutes! The kitchen was closed, contrary to the indication on their website (a statement along the lines of “Food available all night”) and the music inside was so loud conversing with the bar staff inside was nigh on impossible, let alone holding a conversation with someone you attended with.

Fortunately it was a free ticket, or I’d have been really rather irritated.

It’s generally OK when I’ve been before, although somewhat lacking compared to the “original” C&M. Needs to be given time to grow and become established, I guess. As previously alluded to, the layout of the site doesn’t help in creating and maintaining an atmosphere.

That’s pretty poor from the locals, and by the planning authority who could have seen how their original operates without harm.

It would have made a really great site, far better than the bowl.

But as I said, I live in the vlllage there (Hulland ward) . There was a lot of exitment about this place. It was the people who live on the outskirts and the campsite owners who ran the campaign.
I say fk em, let them have the crappy pub. It was always old and crappy anyway. Most of us use the black horse and nags head anyway which are a mile away.

That’s a real shame.

It seems like some of the locals who clearly have nothing better to do spent an awful lot of time bringing about a strong campaign against the new venue which is a shame when the revised application was recommended for approval.

I live in a small rural village and it always amazes me how resistant to change people are especially when it comes to new development, even when it brings benefits. I think typically there are a lot of older, retired people in these places who have little else better to do.

Part of my wants the pub to fail and the land be sold to a developer for a new housing estate…they’d bloody love that.

It seemed that most of those objecting would have been happy for the pub to stay closed and fester.
