If this helps...... I was born in Kiddy and lived on Marlpool for a while. I went to school in Marlpool, Franche and Wolverley, although by then I was living in Bridgnorth. I now live on the Redditch/Studley border.

Kiddy town is like ANY other town centre: 50/50 between the OK and the not-so-nice. There are lots of nice villages around Kiddy (Cookley, Caunsall, Wolverley, Fairfield, Stone, Trimpley, Chadesley as well as all the others mentioned above), so there's plenty of choice. To be honest, tho', Wolverly is very busy with school kids, so I wouldn't go for it personally.

Presumably you're moving there to be near a workplace?? If so, where is it, that may help with the choices.

thank you

The info is not for me, A member of my family is moving there within the next month or two (as soon as they find a area, school and house they like)

the job is based just on the west side of Kidderminster so they are looking at 10mile radius (slightly further if needed to find a decent school), at the moment they are busy on the Ofsted site and good school guide

In that case, I'd suggest Cleobury Mortimer.... that's out to the west.... or they culd look at places like Mamble & Clowes Top. Lovely places, but you'll pay for it ;-) You can get to the west side of Kiddy quite easily from Bridgnorth too (and obviously from Bewdley as many have said).

A word of caution on Bridgnorth & Bewdley tho': they're small, tight streeted tourist traps. When the sun comes out they're mobbed by visitors and you can't get around. Because of tourism, amenities are limited and your family may need to take themselves off elsewhere to shop for some things. These are the major downpoints that took me away from Bridgnorth.

IMHO If they've got money to spend then look at West Hagley/Hagley, the Schools are very highly rated apparently, Holy Trinity School (private) in Kiddy is also very highly rated. If they are in no rush and would like a new house, there is a new development of 50 ish 4 bed and 2 bed mixed accomodation about to be built right in the centre of Hagley Village....maybe buying off plan they can get a good deal...?

I grew up in Hartlebury from 7 (lived in Hagley before that) and now live in Brockhill area of Redditch.

I'd recommend the 2 villages I've lived in but can't think of anything to recommend Kiddy or S-O-S I'm afraid. Went to school in Bewdley and I'd gladly live there.

With schools as a consideration I think its King Charles and Wolverley that are best in Kiddy? Bewdley was a good school - it's why I went there instead of Stourport High as I should've done. Well, that and the fact that my old dear taught there at the time! wink Then of course the RC school in Hagley trumps all those I think.

Oh, and you can have great times racing between the 3 towns on Friday and Saturday nights. The obligatory Mirage drive-by . . . ahh, thems were the days . . . smile

Old thread revival, but just the question I've been Googling.

Currently live a bit away in Cleobury. We're looking for a bigger house with more outside space and would get a lot more for our money in Kidderminster.

So what is the 2020 update on life in Kiddy?
What areas are to be avoided?
We've seen a property we really like on Rifle Range Rd, off Sutton Park Rd. I've been told by one Kiddy resident that this area is not great, but is it really that bad!? Disappointing because the house looks great otherwise.

There's a reason you get more for your money in Kidderminster.....

There are a lot of nice rural places between Kidderminster and Cleobury though.

Nice enough area around there. Don’t get all the bad press about Kiddi. Born and raised there and the centre is a lot better now. With the Wharf and the Shopping centre opposite it has plenty.

Yeah, I guess that's the thing. It comes down to Location vs house. Although Kiddy is actually a better location geographically for my work, but possibly not as nice/quiet a place to live.

Wouldn't mind somewhere outside, or even staying in Cleobury. But finding a 3+ bed with garage, garden and driveway space under £300k is pretty difficult! Could potentially up the budget to £350k, but less debt is always better.

I tend to go into Kiddy to do my shopping, so no issues there. Also, the new Tappeto Lounge near Tesco does some lovely food at reasonable prices. smile

Just a slight niggle in my mind worrying about security. But I guess that can happen anywhere really. Also, potentially difficult to sell the house in future.

Have you looked at the new builds near the sports centre - Silverwoods I think - some nice houses there within your budget .
The Rifle Range estate is pretty rough but the houses off Rifle range road on the rhs going up the hill seem fine .
There was a nice house just down Sutton Park Road fromRR road , 6 bed ,garage , £350 k > Kiddy is well served for shops

If I'm honest we have been put off Kiddy a little. I haven't completely ruled it out, but not sure my wife is onboard.

We've looked at a few nice houses in Stourport, but each had too many negitives and it's a bit less house for the money than Kiddy.

Some lovely houses Cleehill, but the wrong way for work so added travel expense, plus the weather up there is nuts. Cleobury still an option also. So we've got a bit to go before we get the location sorted.

Re new builds - I'm slightly wary of them. That's what we're curently in. The house is fine, but the parking and outside space tends to be terrible. Also have this added complication of Estate Management companies.

FYI, not all “new builds” are subject to estate management companies - it depends on the size of the development & whether the property is accessed through the scheme or directly off an existing public/adopted road. Equally there are sometimes unusual shaped plots which offer a better purchase opportunity & importantly possibly a larger drive (again more likely with developers who do smaller numbers of units).
