All,

Many of you will have met the lovely Pete at some of our meets. I've just been told that Pete passed away yesterday. Below is the post his brother Alan has put on Facebook...

A sad post from me today. My brother Pete had been fighting Cystic Fibrosis for 47 years almost to the day. Sadly, on Jan 4th 2018, he lost the battle and passed away with his family at his bedside.

I have always been proud of the way Pete has approached life and the challenges it presented to him. He never allowed his identity to be defined by his illness and just treated it as an obstacle to be overcome or worked around. He made the most of the good times and tackled the bad with an incredible stubbornness and determination.

It has been a privilege to know him and see what he achieved in life. He has been an inspiration to others and has made many wonderful friends.

If you knew Pete and he made you smile or cringe with his stupid jokes and smutty innuendos, please consider clicking the link below and making a donation to the local charity Cystic Fibrosis Comfort Fund in his name. Every donation to CFCF makes a real difference to the quality of life for CF patients.

So long little bro. You will be missed.

I'm currently waiting for permission from the admins to be able to post the link to the JustGiving page which has been set up.

I am so, so sorry to read this, not least for everyone Pete leaves behind.

My good fortune to get to know the man over the last oh, most of a decade really: a bond of equal parts tyre smoke, and gentle silly humour. I had coffee with Pete at Mud Dock one lazy lunchtime (as we'd occasionally do) only 3rd week of December, and he was in better form than in a long while. Had a play in the new toy he'd only just taken delivery of, a long natter about all sorts of things from the deeply-irreverent to his plans for the coming year or two. The simple pleasure of great company.

I am very upset. I shall miss that special spark and twinkle Pete had, very much indeed - he never lost it, always there utterly regardless of the challenges he faced day-to-day. Even on the odd occasion I visited him in his 'private quarters' at the BRI: drop by after work, with the intention cheer him up a bit - yet I'd come away giggling, having received so much more joy than I could have ever lent the man. I'll treasure his attitude.

(thanks, Sandy, for bringing us this sad, sad news.)
