Looking for meets in the South West
Discussion
Went to Project Auto on Sun just gone, first visit there and lovely day for it.
To be honest it was a bit of a disappointment, they have a great idea - think of it as a much smaller more rural Ace Cafe idea - however it’s too small. There just wasn’t enough to look at, the drift/stance brigade arrived in a variety of cars there was an old Landy with a V8, 2 Mustangs, a MASSIVE American car, 2 R8’s and a Focus RS.
So in terms of it being a ‘brunch meet’ advertised from 11-2pm I think you would struggle to kill more than an hour really.
It cost £5 to park up.
The food and drink was really expensive and when I say food you only had a choice of a Sunday Roast wrap which was basically a giant Yorkshire pudding with meat, veg, gravy in it rolled up. It was nice but also cost £7.50!!! I just wanted a bacon roll or something. Coffee was on a par with Costa (for price not quality) and I asked for a GF roll and was told to they had vegan ones which were ‘exactly the same’.
So I won’t be rushing back to be honest, they are trying but don’t feel it needs a £5 ticket, drinks could be cheaper and more selection of food.
Hoping to do one of the next two QS meets and also another Haynes which is always good.

I popped down about 2pmish, everyone had gone apart from the beautiful white S1 Esprit. If im honest it was probably the only car I would have been interested in anyway but it was a lovely sunny drive down. It looks a nice set up & I wish them well with it. Food looked good but my 8yr old was disappointed the hot choc didn't have marsh mallows Si

Having owned my S4 Esprit for 20 years now I think i'm done with doing car meets. I stopped doing driving car meets years ago after seeing to many near accidents with people driving out of their abilities. With static meets, driving somewhere, parking up to look at a load of other cars & people looking at my Esprit & constantly saying 'ah Lotus, Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious...' or 'hey, does it turn into a submarine?' To which I answer no but its great at picking up prostitutes, (Pretty woman?

I must sound like an old miserable sod, I love my Esprit & ill never sell it but I miss the 'free turn up & see whats there Queen Sq meets' & I guess my weekends are full now with other things.
majority of car meets seem to be going down the route of paying now when it used to be free, normally around £10 last paid one i went to was at Haynes Motor museum - used to be free, then started charging - when we went last month it was only about a 5th of what it used to be like and total crap

I think, and this is purely speculation, it's to deter certain individuals from attendance. I agree with you about the size of certain events not seeming the same, but considering recent (worldly) events, it's nice to see them at least recovering in popularity.I believe with the Haynes ones in particular - the new parking space is enormous in comparison to previous, making it seem smaller in attendance. Plus, it's winter, I imagine that they will grow in size once the big burny thingy in the sky climbs a bit higher.

It is a toughie, how do you get a nice variety of cars but exclude idiots? I don't mind paying a few quid, especially if you get a coffee or something included, to help enable something to take place in a nice location with a good vibe. But you don't want to be paying 10 quid to attend a monthly get together.I believe with the Haynes ones in particular - the new parking space is enormous in comparison to previous, making it seem smaller in attendance. Anyway, here is hoping for more Cars and Coffee type events in Cornwall this year. Bristol and such isn't really in the South West, it's up country

There's a 'Cars on the Green' at Downside Abbey (Bath) on the 20th March

I can thoroughly recommend the South West Classic Car Club which meets once a month on the first Sunday at the Hanley Farm Shop around five miles north of Chepstow on the A48.
£2 per car entry with a huge range of vehicles of all ages and plenty of space to park (on grass).
Very friendly group at Chepstow and there are two other spin off sections in Devon and Cornwall operating on the same basis.
All the information is on their Facebook site.
