Wife's car Peugeot 406 LX DT 1998 has loss both speedo and odometer have stopped working. I have stripped out the dash board, all solder contacts appear to be sound/good. Car has been in several garages and I have been told it could be one of three things, gearbox sensor, the electronics modulator box or a complete new dash board.

I have been advised that the costs for parts could start from £40 and up to £699 for a new dash board, and in view of the latter it would be best to get the car put on a Peugeot main dealer's computer to diagnose the problem.

So I was wondering if any Bristol member knows or has contact with an employee with Peuguot in Bristol who could arrange an out of hours computer car check?

Has the odometer gone blank or just stops clocking up?

I doubt its the dash then, normally when the dash corrupts the odo goes blank/flashes/has lines across. Sounds more likely to be the speed sensor on the gearbox or a wiring fault. Check the connection on the speedo sensor located on the gearbox (near where the driveshafts come out). Its easy to check with a multimeter if you have one.
