Classics in Queen Square
Discussion
The presence of the beer festival in the middle of the square did not help things on Sunday. It seems that the mix of vehicles attending has changed from 'Classics in Queen Square' to something far away from the original intent. There were too many 'moderns' (Civic, Fiesta, etc.) just trying to drive around the square to be seen to look 'cool'. Hardly surprising that Police and traffic wardens were present.
I believe that it is inevitable that the venue will have to change to somewhere with more open space for vehicles and attendees, thereby losing some of the attraction of the Square.
From my perspective, last Sunday was disappointing.

Yep, it's just bonkers now and has completely outgrown the venue. I don't know the solution really, it's lovely doing it in Queen Square in the middle of things but more space is needed...
There is a large council car park by the Portwall Tavern which is likely to be quiet on Sundays and easily accessible.

I agree event is outgrowing the venue. At some point the authorities will clamp down on suspect parking. Could always try Haynes Breakfast Club, Sparkford, Somerset. 1st Sunday of month.

I'd caution against Sodbury as while there are a lot of parking spaces, there are residents and visitors and it gets busy, especially in the Summer months.
We have the annual Classic Run in June which may be of interest to some though.

Agree too many boring moderns, event being spoilt by Ford RS Club types (not classics or interesting cars), who blocked me in again without leaving a 'phone number on their dash, for 45 mins. Will now avoid until the autumn/winter, or until new venue suggested, which is a pity for me as friends and I have been attending for 4/5 years: - Chipping Sodbury won't work as locals will quickly complain and too few parking spaces anyway. Last Sunday was a shambles ( no criticism intended Tony)and hope the wardens didn't have a field day with the poor parking.

I'm amazed that anyone would block another person car in unless they knew that person, I'd never even think of doing that. I'd either keep going until I found a space or just bugger off elsewhere totally.
Anyway, I always thought the main circular road around the Durdham Down would be good. Lots of room, nice location, people can't really get blocked in so everyone can come and go as they please etc.

I find some of the complaining about too many moderns a bit out of character with the spirit of the event. As a vxr8 owner i'm sure the car isn't to everyone's taste but the ADC website says "Be it classic, modern, a car or a motorcycle (although the wearing of leather romper suits is discouraged) you’re welcome here". If that is not the case then I will go elsewhere as frankly I find the direction of this thread as off putting as some of the more valid issues it raises.
A friend has been doing some good coverage for another friends blog of the meets. Probably more biased to the stuff people are complaining about, and intilially attracted by the modern stuff but it's nice and rounded.

Combe as a venue would be costly. However, there are other events there already in a similar vein. Bristol Motor Club's Sports car Day is an event where you can just rock up, park up in the paddock and wander around. No payment or booking necessary unless you want to take the car on track. It's a bit more formal simply because there's a PA and commentator walking around the paddock, but it's a relaxed atmosphere.
