Traffic Madness
Discussion
So after the lorry accident on the M3/M27 link yesterday we have the fire at Whitely this morning, one of my colleagues spent 5 hours stranded on the closed motorway. I came home from work across town, it still took an hour and a half - about 3 times longer than usual.
Just nipped on on an errand to find lots of traffic about still, from the ROMANSE cameras it seems the A3024 is solid from Northam bridge to M27 J8, Burgess Road doesn't look much better and google maps shows heavy traffic along Thomas Lewis Way and all through Mansbridge.
Utter chaos still, those who stayed late at work may as well not have bothered trying to get home!

Traffic chaos in the whole area (Winchester to Fareham) all day; even as I came past at 5.30pm the M27 was still closed eastbound and the burnt-out lorry was still there.
All caused (maybe) by a small number of bad drivers - and I saw plenty this morning. The M27 was wet, with loads of spray, picture below from around 7.30am, and yet lots of drivers still doing over 70 and tailgating:-

Eastleigh to Hedge End (leaving at 1830) took me 1h30 to get home.
Looking at Romanse now the M27 still seems to be a mess but north of the M27 - Fair Oak, Botley, etc. nowhere near a sea of red that it was earlier.
Only saw 2 idiots attempt to drive down the hard shoulder before they ran out of balls and pushed their way back in.

West End towards Hamble for me this evening - normally 10-15 minutes, took 50 minutes with a diversion along Weston Shore. Not too bad, in fairness.
Someone I know left Eastleigh just before 5pm and hadn't reached Hedge End 3 hours later - should have parked up and walked / got the train..

Would not fancy being one of the boys in blue sorting out that mess today.
An interesting article for those feeling aggrieved about the roads being closed:Would not fancy being one of the boys in blue sorting out that mess today.

My point exactly. A very close family member is a senior manager in Hampshire fire and rescue and I've heard stories similar (although the body was a bit more charred). God knows how they do it, but I'm thankful I have a desk and a computer rather than a badge and a bad news story.http://cars.aol.co.uk/2015/03/27/how-the-police-de...
Was crazy outside where I live
Girlfriend abandoned car at airport and walked back to ours in west end
Sod's law that my motorbike is not insured or I could have popped down and collected her
I did cycle down and meet her with some trainers as she has work shoes on
My thoughts are with all involved

Took me 4 & half hours, Whiteley to Ringwood. We just mis timed it, left work just before the Mway reopened & got clobbered through Botley & Hedge End, eventually diving out through Eastleigh onto the M3. My absolute sympathies with the family & friends of the poor guy who died, & I too know traffic cops & have some limited understanding of the traumas they go through...but...I find it really quite frightening how log jammed everything gets when something like this happens. It's a pretty regular occurrence, yet there seems to be no contingency planning beforehand, no traffic management during & no "lessons learned" afterwards. Maybe it happens & we just don't see it, but we should be better than this, surely?
Horrr-endousss crash (as the last James Best used to say) northbound on the Spur Road tonight. Loads of ambulances, Police, more coming as I was coming back southbound. Road closed, chopping a roof off as came past. Doesn't bear thinking about. Some families' not going to have a good evening.
No fatalities reported.
